Minecraft server setup competition. Who's the best setup specialist?

Hey guys,

So I had a complete random idea today of a possible event MC-M could host or just a group of reputable people can host. Obviously, we'd need a large audience source such as MC-M to promote it. So as the title says it'll be a server development type of event. Who can make the most custom or most sexy server setup? The setups will be rated on multiple categories such as; best chat designs, most complex, overall best, and that sort of stuff. I really wanna make this an event and hopefully, you guys do too.

Requirements (these rules can be modified):
1. You must have a somewhat reputable rating on your setup thread
2. Must be able to provide your own server. You can have as much GBs as you want. We won't be rating performance as not everyone can afford the same amount of GBs.
3. Professional and somewhat well known for server setups (this is because we don't wanna waste our time rating bad setups).
4. Premade files or files that have been made before the event (or even leaked files) will be disqualified instantly.
and more (this is a rough draft).

Let me know what you think. After the setups are done and the event is over we will make polls either via MC-M if they want to host it or another website. In the end, the creator of the setup can do anything with their setup. Sell it, keep it, give it to someone, it's completely your choice. This event will take some time to actually make because we need to make sure we have the right people competing and we have to decide if we want to make it multiple people can work on the setup or only one person.

Ideas:
1. Logo, website, and designs (if you wanna sponsor us with that stuff DM me, you'll get credit for it)
2. Try to get MC-M to host it.
3. $10 fee entre. 10% goes to the people who spent money on this project and another 10% goes to the whoever hosts the event. Then the 80% goes to the winner of the overall event (the person with the highest rating).

This event is strictly for people who love doing this stuff. If you get upset easily or hurt by what people think about your setups please leave as we cannot have that type of behavior (it might get you disqualified). Once again let me know what you guys think! I wanna know what the community has to say. Also, we can expand this in the future to other types of services like designs and builds but I think the best one right now is setups.

exactly, i don't get many orders but I do my best to please my customers. I don't spend alot of money I only spend a bit a month on a dedicated server. I was speaking for the vast majority of people and myself right now. I do have that 10$ but I like speaking for the vast majority of people who try to be known and don't become known because other people have cooler thread designs and things that make them look fancy while the other user has as much power and probably more in server setups and is defeated by the unfair thing of `reputation`.


* I don't pay for the servers. I pay for the server than runs them.

I legit started from a random guy asking me if I can make a towny server. Easy $20. I later kept that money and opened a thread on MCM. From there I got orders maybe once a week or once every two weeks. I used that money to make my appearance better and note that I had 0 friends on this website and no reputation. The problem is people are making money but they spend it. Also, you just said you are talking about the majority of the people who try but you legit said

I agree with the fairness you think of but here's how I see it:

why would a good user who has alot of experience and reputation enter the competition if he already makes enough?

wouldn't it be better to offer a small prize that is profitable yet a free entry to all the users who are not known and want to be known?

How would we get what we spent back if it's free? The website development and promotions would cost a lot.

mcm would host an event that promotes all setups done in a week by applying a sticking them to the top just like a sticky thread and whichever gets bought the most would result in the user who won having the `Best Setup Specialist` Rank just like Supreme or something. just an idea.

Yeah but people will be selling setups for different prices, along with that someone can make a thread then his friend "buys" it and pays the guy back and bam he has supreme rank. It can be easily messed with.

Agreed as I stated none of my plans are perfect. yours has a pretty obvious flaw as we can just grab premade configs and edit them without proof of owning them as you can not prove you own a config.

Yeah but that's why it's a custom theme... It'll be a theme that is new or something not many servers have.

Uhm I have like 10-20 custom server ideas not done yet saved in my notes. Obviously, I won't share them cause then people would use them but for the sake of this, I'd use them if needed. You can't say something like that doesn't exist anymore because you're wrong.

It's legit nowhere near "almost every idea". There are millions of ideas out there that are yet to be discovered.

Not necessarily. People give up to easily and have a terrible mindset when it comes to this stuff.

exactly. Most people that do setups take the ideas from people and make them enjoyable. your just doubling your workload by thinking about new ideas you probably might not use in the future. Anyways we've spammed this thread enough please continue to dms if you would like this to continue...

I just don't understand what the problem is with the custom idea (it's not something game-changing to the game modes it just features to can add).

look I agree with your competition but it would get mcm lots of hate if the winner ended up cheating and the losers would be salty and either leave mcm or just call out the owners for abuse and false picking just to not lose money etc... It would make mcm look bad and thats why it will not be released (most likely).

I understand where you're coming from but it made no sense cause I told you how we can prevent people from using configs in the past and if someone finds a way to vote multiple times for themselves they'll be caught. There are many workarounds. The idea you said would have been even riskier. Also if the people who join the contest are gonna be sore losers then that's their fault. Anyways this thread should be closed.

agreed that it should be closed. this was a dumb idea if we are gonna be honest for a few reasons.
1. there is no way of knowing the config was made on what date.
2. if a user knows java he has a much better advantage than people who go on spigot plugins and make the best out of what they can and can't do.
3. This has been going on for 2 days now so just end it.
