Would you rather play on a server using 1.8, 1.12 with the old combat mechanics or the latest version?

I personally prefer 1.8, although I haven’t played much in the 1.12. From what’s I’ve seen, I just don’t like it.

Thanks for that quick response. Right now my team and I are debating to keep the server 1.8 w/backwards compatibility or update to the latest version.

Undestand that if they revert tnt mechanics and pvp in higher versions all servers would use those versions but they don't

What exactly is different about the tnt mechanics in the new update? Haven’t looked myself..

everything past 1.8 makes factions servers unplayable they changed how it all works and is coded ruining tnt cannoning and raiding

Yup! Agree with most people on the server, after 1.8 standard pvp mechanics for Faction servers died!

1.8.x with 1.7.x compatibility is the best you can use for a pvp server.

The server base version should be an updated version and not 1.8x, you can always add backward compatibility. 1.8 is over 4 years old, is full of bugs and most plugins stop supporting it, your server will still work the same and have the same pvp / tnt mechanics if you configure it correctly.
