Question for all you guys who currently run a server or a network. Are you the only owner under your server, or do you have other owners or co-owners helping you? What do they provide for you, and what do you provide for them? Just curious to see what you guys do :)

I am the only owner. It's to hard for me if there is another guy who can decide everything. I think it will end up with a big chaos or a war between the owners.

I find it very immature when small servers (sub 50 players) have Co-Owners. If you're a small server, why the heck do you need a Co-Owner? Who came up with the idea of Co-Owners in the first place? Is it your server or not? If you need someone to manage plugins or something make then an Admin.

yes and i would only suggest doing it with a friend. but if u he is only co owner then yes u shoud have the final say
What does your other owner do you for you? Or does he just own another server on your network. The reason I'm asking is because I'm interested in having another owner take part in my server to contribute more funds, but I'm not sure what I'll have him do.[DOUBLEPOST=1457363913][/DOUBLEPOST]

That's what I'm worried about. Could always put in writing that you have the final say.
If you're worried about that, you shouldn't...It's quiet a simple thing to deal with. You're the owner and your decision stays and should be final, also yes, you could simply put it in writing that your decision is final and that you have more of a percentage of ownership on the server. If you ask me about whether or not you should have one, I'd say that you should get one who can work efficiently underneath you. I wouldn't necessarily make them co-owner but rather a manager. I feel that having more than one owner is good because it gives your server more help and lets you both throw ideas at each other which at the end will make the server better. Two brains are better than one ;)

What you could do to "weed the garden" is to have people who is interested in helping the server out start out like say "Helper" then promoting and fire them as deemed appropriate.

An example of such is that you have 5 people who are interested into helping. Then you can do something like the following..

1. Start them all as helpers
2. Monitor them at random times and log on as a "new" player and "quiz" them if possible.
3. Then "rinse and repeat" up the "ladder" until you got that person who actually deserve the status.

I usually find "Helper" ranks immature as well. If they are there to moderate or to assist players, give them a Moderator rank. If they are there to help with plugins and server performance, give then the Admin rank. "Helpers" are stupid. Every staff member should be a "Helper".

If you don't want to give them full power yet, make them a "Trial Mod" or something.

I think its easier with multiple owners if you have a big Network, but I suggest you clarify you are the main owner and make them sign contracts stating your terms.

Well the Network i started now has 2 owners me and a good friend, everything paid out is done on an excel spreadsheet so we see clear cost's and payments and if overpaid we pay each other via paypal very SIMPLE AND EASY process to be honest that and it allows us both to not have to dedicate as much time online, when i owned the Network alone it was alot of time needed in organizing everything and keeping it going now its simple fact and efficient.
Thanks for the detailed response, I'm thinking of doing something like this!

Yes very true, some servers overuse that rank where at least 1/3 of the server people are "Helpers". I wouldn't mind if a server actually use this rank as a mean of "go to person for in game help" type of things and to permits only a few basic additional commands.

Or just giving the default group the prefix helper.

Hello,

Usually when I create a project such as Mineheist or Minewrath the way our staff team goes is the following:

Owner / Founder
Lead manager
Manager
Administrator

Moderator
Helper

Builder

Lead developer
Developer

System administrator

Each one of these roles play an important part in managing the server:

The Owner or Lead manager will verify everything before it is put live on the server.

The Manager is in charge of managing the community and staff team along with Social media account(s).

The Administrators are in charge of large issues in-game such as bans and the management of the community on the live server.

The Moderators are in charge of keeping the community in-game in line and they mainly deal with mutes, bans, warns and kicks.

The Helpers are Jr. Moderators and will shadow the Moderators so they can be promoted sort of like interns.

The Builder role is a paid position and they are in charge of completing builds when a write up is given to them.

The Lead developer role is a paid position and they are in charge of completing projects and helping Jr. Developers.

The Developer role is a paid position and they are in charge of completing projects.

The System Administrator role is a paid positation and they are in-charge of the dedicated server and keeping us online.
Very interesting, thanks for sharing :)
