i just got a text from nationwide about how i needed a code for a transaction from a card number ending in 4 numbers that have no relations to any of my cards. i don’t really want to act on it but it said it was about 65.00GBP and how i had to call them about if it wasn’t me.

advice or has this happened to anyone else?

They are all over the US, but they are closed on weekends where I live. At least their offices are closed which are the people who would contact you. And, I highly doubt any of them want to contact you for 65$ on a Saturday night (Sunday morning).
yeah i’m not sure if i should trust the text and just call the company or just ignore until the issue becomes a little more heated

Better to get ahead before it's to late.

Alright, I’m nearly certain it’s a scam number now.

First of all, Under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, paying by credit card can have free protection on purchases under £100 and up to £30,000 if a supplier breaches the contract or misrepresents the goods or services you’ve bought from them.

Secondly, the number isn’t the same as the one I was previously texted on before. It included my name and my real last 4 digits. I also usually get emails about the same thing, which also includes part of my bank account number, part of my postcode and all of the banks related to nationwide.

Thirdly, I’ve had previous scam emails and texts from these people from different email addresses each time, essentially dummy emails.

The only thing I’m not sure about is the number they attached. The number IS from nationwide. I searched it up and it came up with legitimate nationwide websites containing the same exact number that was included in the text. But, in my bank statement I have no recent transactions under 65.00GBP in the past 4months (when I first got my card) and nothing to say anywhere that I’m in debt 65GBP. Then again, back to what you said, about the identify fraud, that could still be possible. Regardless I’ll still give them a call

Anyone can do a quick IP look up, and find your nation wide's info etc.
