Last time I checked, this is definitely possible without a specific Spigot. I've seen lots of plugins out there, a lot of them just don't work very well and/or have been broken. Unless all of these plugins are total fakes, it's possible.

Yea, it's possible through plugins but very buggy and not very smooth, would recommend it through Spigot if it were me.

Sure, I've seen plenty of these plugins that are buggy, but I personally suspect the issue is almost that so many people put this into Spigots. In totally un-modded Spigots that I know don't include any manipulation of pearl mechanics, these plugins work fine, but in Spigots that do contain the option for pearl modifications, even if it's just trajectory or such and not actually pearlthrough, tend to break the pearlthrough plugins.

Not sure if that's necessarily the direct cause, it's possible the methods used to pearlthrough are just generically buggy, I don't know.
