Hello. I'm releasing a server this weekend.

I need help right ASAP. I'm expecting about 70-90 players max on the servers on release, it is a faction server (cannoning). And I need to know what would be okay for the host, I mean would this be okay for the host.

Please give me suggestions, I'm spending max around 30$ for the host. And I'm asking if that is okay for the amount of players, if not give me better suggestions.

Regards,
iSynx.

Since a Minecraft server is mainly single-threaded, I'd suggest you look at a host that offers high-speed cores rather than lower-speed ones (I'm assuming HostUS uses a high-core-count Xeon E5 due to the fact that they are offering you 6 cores on a 8 GB plan). Additionally, I'd recommend you look at pure SSD storage instead of RAID-10 HDD or SSD-Cached HDD storage.

In most cases, VPS hosts that offer VPS's with quite a high core count (6 cores with 8GB RAM) and are fairly cheap, are doing one of two things.

1. Using CPU's with a high amount of cores. Which is fine, nothing wrong with them doing that, but you will often find that CPU's with many cores tend to run at lower, sub 3GHz clock speeds. Which is fine for some work loads, but Minecraft servers work better with CPU's with better single core performance.

2. You share those cores with several other people. Which is fine too, makes the VPS cheap and able to run at good speeds when needed, as long as it doesnt use high amounts of CPU all the time. Since that isnt considered fair usage, and leads to the host stopping your service.

Either way, the VPS you're looking at, likely isnt very good for Minecraft hosting.

Would I need to aim for more RAM? Maybe 16 for the playercount I'm expecting.

For your playerbase, 8 GB should be plenty. You should be a lot more concerned about the CPU usage with that many players.

Would I be aiming for a regular budget minecraft server, like this. (16gb)

Or something like a 12gb Cloud RAM VPS from OVH.

Or do you have better suggestions?

I can likely get you a decent dedicated server near your budget which might work well. Send me a pm or add me on discord (Hoot#6666) and we can chat about it.
