I've got the (almost) exact same laptop. I really like it, the screen is good, big hard drive, nice speakers, good track pad, and it's light. The thing is that the bloatware was horrible (at least where I got it).
Ah right fair enough - the only bad thing I can see from it so far is that it has some stupid buttons on the keyboard, which should be customisable, and the fact that it is very heavy.
Yeah, the keyboard buttons are a tad annoying, I'm always pressing Insert instead of F12 and constantly enabling airplane mode when I mean to change the volume.

I agree Asus is an amazing company. Throw in the fact they buy from manufacturer and not 3rd party providers.
Nice thing too is there coverage Plans. 7 days you send it away if you have a problem Monday it's at your door again. 3yr manufactures coverage plan
I've never had to ship my laptop out but it's peace of mind that counts.
I really like these picks, I'm at work right now so I can't do a super in depth review, but I want to, so I'll look at these when I'm off in about 2-3hrs and give my input on it, both look like awesome machines though!
I took a pick at the G751JY also, but it looks exactly the same as the G751Jt. Which one is better than the other?

The G751JY is slightly better as it has a stronger graphics card, processor, and SSD and bluetooth drive.
All in all, the G751JY is a much better pick than the G751JT when it comes to which gives you a better bang for your buck.

I would keep my Apple (for school) and then have a desktop for gaming. I built a nice gaming desktop over beak for $1,000 and it can handle everything fine. I noticed this idea kinda has been touched, but just wanted to mention it again.

Ok let's break it down...
First, you have to know what size of screen you can handle. My first laptop I ever bought was a 17.3" and it was amazing, was nice for games, movies, web pages, you name it. However these days in the grand spectrum of things, a 17.3" screen @ 1080p really isn't that nice anymore, sure it's a good resolution, but it's going out the door faster than people want to believe it is. Also 17" for me at the time, made me feel like I was literally carrying around a small desktop! It was heavy, it was big, opening the screen from a corner you could watch the LCD panel flex from the resistance!
If you're used to a 15.6" screen, I almost want to say that should be half of your deciding point, I'm not saying don't branch out and try bigger screens, but chances are you're at 1080p now! If you are, all it's going to do is stretch those pixels on a 17.3".
Let's skip past that for a moment though...
970M 6GB vs 980M 4GB
This is a tough one as well, both are awesome cards and you honestly will very likely not be disappointed no matter what route you were to go.
The 980 will be about %10-%20 more powerful in some areas and in some games, and on a 1080p screen, 4GB of memory on a card will be plenty! At least for another 2-4 years.
The 970 has 6GB! I saw this and said to myself "Why on earth would it need 6GB!?", then I saw in the notes, the Origin laptop, for $200 more, can come with a 4K display. Yes, 3840x2160 resolution.
Holy. Fuck.

Ya know what, let's just fast forward and have me tell you why you should get the Origin one. (Between these two at least)
- It's an extremely common screen size.
- It only weighs 4.2 Lbs
- Yes it only has 16GB of ram, and yes 24GB sure does look attractive, but will you really use 24GB? Nah..
When I was building my desktop I considered doing 32, but ended up sticking with 16 for now.
I could hit 16 if I tried, but never accidentally. I very often have 3+ Minecraft clients open, League, a few Chrome tabs, and maybe Netflix open all at the same time, and I'll barely be tipping over 10GB.
24GB is nothing but visual attraction, because everybody wants more right!?

Imagine a bucket full of golf balls is next to you, and your goal is to pick them up 1 by 1 and throw them into the pond in front of you, but you only have 1 arm.
Yeah, you're going to be faster than the guy behind you screaming "TIMMAH" as he kicks the bucket over (Hard Drives).
But imagine having 2 arms to grab and throw. That is raiding, it's taking all the data coming in and out, and literally splitting it in half to each drive.
One byte here, one byte there. 2x the R/W.
The Asus, just isn't quite with the times...
They put in a beefy card, yet leave it at 1080p...
They put in 24GB of RAM, but you're never going to hit that by the time you say "I want a better laptop."
They have an SSD? That's nice, so does every laptop now, and with more space than 256GB!
What are you really paying for with the Asus? A brand name, and + 1.7" of screen.
What are you getting with the Origin...
Fast as fuck hard drives. WITH a TB regular drive still on the side.
All the RAM you need and plus a little.
A video card that is not only good, but can actually handle 4K resolutions better than a 4GB card can.
Option to upgrade to 4K
Less weight.

A macbook is definitely an ideal choice, design is nice, power is decent, OS is great, screen is excellent, build quality is great. Price is expensive though, a bit overpriced. But ya said you don't want a macbook so.. idk
