I also need to create subdomain which redirects to an external host

Why not just run the domain through cloudflare and then direct an A record with the subdomain to the external host? If you need help doing that I’m more than happy helping you free of charge just shoot me a pm on discord; matty#1633.

Do what Matty says. and just use letsencrypt on your host.

As he said use LetsEncrypt or use cloudflare free SSL cert.

Then Cloudflare has a guide and a way to redirect your subdomain easily.
I can do this for free for you if you'd really like.
