Recently I've found many aspiring Managers and Service Providers are including a line within their thread along the lines of, "If you trash my thread, I'll give you negative reputation." Well, trashing someone's thread is either A. Against the rules or B. A part of receiving community feedback, if of course the comment provides information on how to improve or what is actually bad.

This typically discourages anyone from posting to critique or point something out, I for one could care less about my reputation rating and I always point things out anyway. This also allows for what Wand has done where he may, or may not have, had new accounts (friends/spares) vouch for the first few comments.

It also clearly states in the rules that reputation shouldn't be use for an incentive and I think that should go the other way as to not threaten negative rep. Additionally, I believe that "trashing someones thread" should be more clear to the users on the site. I've had to explain this to way too many people that simply pointing out issues or errors isn't trashing...

Firstly, I agree with the point that reputation should not be used as a deterrent. That word should be added as clarification after the mention of incentives.

However, I must correct a point you've made.
Trashing is against the rules. If it's not a violation of our rules, it's not trashing, it's purely constructive criticism.

If you report someone's comment for trashing your thread and it isn't removed and they're not warned, then it wasn't trashing, and you can't give them reputation for trashing your thread anyways, because they haven't trashed it. That would be removed for being misinformative.
Giving someone negative reputation for violating our rules at your expense is, however, perfectly reasonable.

Once again though, I do agree that reputation should never be used as a deterrent just as much as it shouldn't be used as an incentive.

I neg rep people for trashing my thread.
Since I updated my profile people tend to comment more on the fact about my LGBTQ flag and pride than the actual product I am selling. Also leaving useless comments like "GLWS" "VOUCH" after making it clear don't.

That's totally understandable, it is against the rules to post things with no significance... this includes not only GLWS, Vouch, and others, but also making unwarranted comments on your profile/picture. I do believe that in those cases a negative reputation may be warranted IF they're posting it on more than one of your threads or posting multiple times, or actually trashing your thread. However, I do disagree with the idea that if someone makes 1 comment like that, that you will neg rep them... just report them and have the comment removed. Negative reputation is for actual encounters... not vengeance. :/

Agree

If someone puts some dumb semi in the OG section and says "Anyone who trashes or comments about the name not being OG will get neg repped", that should be PUNISHABLE even. I could say "This name has been available for 3+ years and now that you've claimed it you are trying to sell it in the OG section? I'm not so sure about that. Plus, the OG form is (blank), however, this name would fit fine in the semi section though" and get neg repped. (Based on a true story).

The example I just made was criticism and is not worthy of a negative rep, saying something like "This account is awful and not og fuck you retard!" is probably more deserving of a negative rep, it's not criticism, it's just being toxic and leaving a bad mark on the thread, which is trashing and punishable.

People try to evade users from telling the truth and saying what's need to be said by threatening them with a negative rep if they do so, that's not ok and I believe this should definitely be implemented.

I agree with this.

Recently, I have received a negative reputation for "useless comment", even though I was just answering someone that had tagged me in someone else's selling thread. That's not how the reputation system works. It's supposed to be based off of a review that you have done after doing business with someone. It's not supposed to be used just to say "User trashed my thread do not deal with him."

Since the time this thread was posted I believe that we edited the rules to state that reputation may not be used as a deterrent, so this has already been implemented.

I'll move this to denied, thanks for the suggestion.
