New reputation rule

It's quite simple. Right now, reputation is a "general reputation system", which means you can give reputation for just about anything. You can give someone a negative reputation for saying something you don't like on a thread a few times, or for something they did to someone else. I think this is quite dumb.

My suggestion is to disallow repping someone if you've never made a deal with them.

Actually reactions aren't reputation as everybody can give you one. The reputation is how the community seems a person and how many vouches the person has. In my opinion this has no point as reactions are as it says; reactions to a post or thread you've made and if someone disagrees, that person is going to give you a "negative reaction" which you don't have to be worried about because, as I said, it doesn't mean you are less trustable.

The first time we implemented it we required everyone to have a deal with a person before he could give him reputation.
The big question is, how do we verify this? Do we go around asking proof about a deal of every thread that was made.

The reputation system is a better alternative than the reaction system since it's not repetitive. You may only give reputation once to each user.

If someone contests a reputation made against them and claims they never dealt with the user, then you'd ask for proof.

I was under the impression that reputation was the main thing to go by on here along with vouches. Personally i think the reputation system is a good thing to have, and the current way of doing it seems to work from what i can tell.

The only thing that really sucks about rep for me is that your account must be 3 months old to leave others rep, even though they have left one for you after completing a deal. Seems unfair to the other user and it's not made known to the user who has to wait 3 months. I'm sure there is a good reason for this, one that comes to mind is alt accounts leaving rep on a main account, but surely there could be logs of rep being left and IPs where mods can check every so often to make sure it's legit.

This used to be the case when we implemented the reputation system for the first time. There were a bunch of issues with the rule. The main one being that we cannot actually verify that a deal occurred. Sure, we can ask for screenshots, proof and whatnot but it's just not doable when there are so much members handing out reputation every day.
