Hi everyone, first post here! So I am finally beginning to grow my server, slowly but surely. We are averaging a few new joins per week and finally have some consistancy in our online player numbers. I am really looking to engage with my players and host fun events and give them stuff to look forward to. I log on every day and chat with people, however I am drawing a blank when trying to think of giveaways and events and such. Can anyone share some ideas for some fun events or giveaways I could do to get some hype built up and give players something fun to look forward to? Thanks so much!

Heyy,

What I did was do pvp events. I had a practice server beside in my mc network so I always used to call everyone on and invite players to join tournaments and private party events so we could still have em playing. I didn't really award them for winning as pvp is something almost everyone likes and mostly anyone would just pvp for fun with no winning prize. So uhh, you could either award them a rank or items in a survival server beside in the network

Some fine tips here, but one piece that's missing is: It's hard to get engagement when you aren't even sure what the server "is" yourself.

What I mean by that is, get a notebook and write down your vision. Ask yourself what type of server you are creating and what you want people to do on it. Then plan your events and activities from there. If you run a hyper-casual server and start running competitive PvP events based off of advice in here, then your players won't be the right fit for the event and won't be engaged by it. On the other hand, if you run a hardcore prisons server and create an Escape Room type challenge course and track the best times, that might fit thematically with the rest of the server.

Picking some random idea that you and your staff wouldn't even want to take part in isn't going to win for you, even if it boosted engagement for another server in here.

In my experience owning and managing game servers, I've found the best way to get ideas is to ask your current playerbase. If you've ever walked into a restaurant or storefront and thought, "Hey, they could do something like this _____, and it'd be a hit!" - You'll find it's quite the same with players.

On most of my projects I open up a line of communication for ideas and suggestions, usually via Discord, Reddit, or whatever forum software we are using at the time. This allows me to interact and engage with my community, but get their ideas and work off of them to build things the community really wants. You might even find someone in your community who has a real knack for this kind of stuff, it's always an option to offer them a position with your server helping with events and engagement as well.
