I think it will add a new pvp dynamic and mean blocking is used much more..

If you were into a bunch of HCF, Faction servers, practice (such as kohi.us, badlion.net). It's easy to spot out a few cons for us.
1) You are able to hold a enderpearl and another item at once, making it easy to get away and harder
to spot where or if someone threw a enderpearl. (From what I heard)
2) Shields could make a horrifying turn around in a situation. And making it slightly harder to win a fight.

that I liked. I don't think it will matter much though, because the people that usually play those servers are probably thinking what

i'm sure mojang thought of those downsides and took those into consideration when making the update lol

doesn't making it slightly harder to win a fight raise the skillcap and thus make the game better
