Hello there, today I am showcasing an upcoming MMO server, called Niva. When we first sat down to create this server we knew we didnt want it to be regular survival, we wanted to push the boundaries, we wanted to create an immersive experience that all minecraft players could enjoy.
We are creating a world that the player matters. Unlike other MMO's, our world wont just lay there dormant while you wander around it, our world will interact with the player, the players decisions matter, how the player plays will affect how the server progresses.
We have gathered a team of Developers, Builders, Minecraft enthusiasts and qualified managers to make sure you have the best experience possible. In this thread I will give you a brief overview of some of our key features.
Rich Storytelling
When you start off playing, you will arrive in a small town in the world of Niva. You will quickly realise that our storyline isnt just about doing needless tasks for static villagers. We are creating a rich, immersive storyline that our players will find very interesting. You will meet interesting characters along the way, and these characters wont just tell you to do a task then send you off, they may fight with you, or help you along the way.
Each City, town or even building all have a massive amount of Lore to them. Each castle has a story of who built it, what wars had been fought to take it, which kings ruled it, and much more. There is an unlimited amount of lore, we will constantly be adding more and more to keep the player interested.
Smart, Interactive World
Our world doesnt lay dormant while the player completed tasks around it. Our world is living, and breathing, the players choices matter. An armor shop cant just produce every type of armor out of thin air, it can only produce armor using recources found near its shop. Shopkeepers also wont stay up all night, and work 24/7 just to tend to the players needs, they have needs to. Our NPC's are smart, as our players will be living, and working alongside them, we want them to act like a player would.
Players can take up a range of jobs, fishing, trading, fighting, etc. However we dont limit you to an official choice, the player can do whatever they want, whenever they want, there will never be a stage where you have to click a button and say "This is my choice".
If players are not buying their goods from a certain town, or city, that area will start to become poorer, this will be evident by lack of open shops, decreasing in army size, and buildings will become in bad condition. Players choose which cities thrive and which cities will decay into history. Cities may be conquered by rivalling cities if they become too weak. The possiblities are endless.
Player Choice
I said earlier that the players are never restricted to an official choice, let me go into more detail about this. Most MMO servers, when you start off you are asked to select a class, and told you must stick with this class for the rest of your time, we dont do this, ever. When it comes to what fighting style you want to use, what job you want to take, where you want to live, none of this is official, and you are free to change your mind whenever.
With Jobs, you can ask an NPC to be hired, and he will give you working hours, eventually you may get fired if you do not work enough, however if you do a few hours, you will still get paid. This means players can continue with quests, and levelling up, while having a stable income. Alternitavely, you can purchase a business, and hire NPC's, or other players, to work for you, your possibilities are endless.
Custom Skill System
We got our inspiration from our skill system from Runescape. We are starting off with 10 basic skills, each of these can be levelled up to level 100. Your overall skill level, divided by 10 will be shown as a prefix. As you level up skills, you will be able to do more stuff, fish better fish, chop down better trees, fight stronger enemies, the posiblities are endless.
I am not going to go into too much detail on this, as I am sure a lot of you are familiar with how Runescapes skill system works.
Clans
We are also giving players the opportunity to create clans. We are not using the faction plugin that a lot of other servers use, instead we are creating a fully custom clans plugin, this will allow players to create clans, recruit players to their clan, create clan banners, and have a clan base. Our clan system is very intricate, if you grow your clan, you may even be able to take over small towns, eventually even large cities. You might think, 'What happens when you take over a city?'. Well ...
Politics
Players can join in on politics, this means you can run cities, towns, or even countries, if you have enough ambition. Some cities will be democracys, and some will be monarchys. If you want to become a king of a democracy, you must earn the players respect. All players (Yes, real players) who own a house in that city will be allowed to vote for a king, this means that if you have earned the respect and trust of players, you can become king.
The other way, is by conquering the city, if youre clan is big enough, it can turn into an army, and with this army, you can battle other cities, keep in mind that other players will want to defend these cities, making for a very interesting fight. To conquer a city you must kill the king and 50% of their army.
When you are king, you have power to choose where to build new buildings, to expand your city, or to go to war. You can also choose new mines, new trade routes, and much more.
If you choose to go down this path, it can be a risky career, there will be 12 main cities in the world, meaning there can only be 12 kings, it is a risky job and their is a high chance of assasination, you will have to use the cities money to purchase body guards. Your city can earn money through trade, using natural recources, tax, and other methods.

This is a brief overview of our aim for this server. There are tons more features that we will be adding in future updates.
