It's still a domain that gets traffic if you were to make a MineHQ copy or just use it as a proxy domain

You might be right about everyone being able to use the domain since the minehq team doesn't give a shit about the server anymore I'm just saying it is prob copyrighted tho.

As long as you don't claim that you're MineHQ, you should be fine using it as a redirect for traffic.
