Not Allowing Signature or Other Requirement Giveaways

If you are not going to allow users to use giveaway services like gleam.io where you can enter via social media, why would you allow things like companies requiring signature links as available and qualified giveaways on here? Business use that as advertising, just like people use gleam.io and others as social media advertising.

Backflip puts it correctly, sorry if my explanation is off. But yeah, essentially companies are allowed to advertise for free and get free advertising on this site if they offer some sort of giveaway. It is "essentially" the same thing an individual attempts to do when doing the same thing. However, individuals are not allowed but many of these so called companies are allowed.

I do agree. I feel that a giveaway should not be posted for you to get something out of it such as advertising, it should be for giving something away to the community. If a company would like to advertise in signatures they should post a thread in the advertising section requesting people to change their signatures for money.

I got an addon developed for the 12 days of Christmas where users simply click a button to enter and I think that having all giveaways require a button press to enter will make it far easier to enter/host a giveaway. Thoughts on this?

Would be cool would help with people doing these 1 month signature slot giveaways when usually those slots cost a couple dollars each and they get 50+ people who do it just for something like 25$ Gift card really doesn’t feel right

Yeah, the whole thing where you have to have a banner or join a discord seems like its bending the "no social media interacton requirement' rule.
I can understand why people might want to do it, since it's very cheap advertisement, but at this point every other giveaway is just a lottery you pay for with advertising for said person.

I think that this is the right way to go if you want to eliminate this advertising through giveaways option.

I'll move this to pending for us to implement in the future. This is a good point and we should be implementing a new policy to prevent this.

I'm sure this will be a welcome change to many:

We're basically looking to take this suggestion in the exact opposite direction. Instead of tightening restrictions, in XF2 we're changing our rules to instead allow for users to require social media interaction for giveaways. As long as proof that the giveaway has been completed is provided I'm fine with companies requiring social media engagement before entering. It's up to users whether or not they think the cost is worth the chance they have at winning.
