Why should rep not also be for opinions? If you had an interaction with a person and the interaction was sour or aggressive etc that gives you a REPUTATION of being a sour and aggressive person. In the definition of reputation it even states that reputation is opinion based in some cases.

Except this site has become solely based on reputation and if you argue an opinion other than yours that someone dislikes, they have the full and right ability to neg rep you and basically deteriorate your ability to do business on this site. Everyone has the right to an opinion and if you have to sacrifice your ability to perform to a certain standard because your "reputation" is ruined, then something needs to be changed.

But this is a MARKET, not a salty chat site. Reputations should be used to show how a deal went. Not to rep someone over an opinion. Sure, if someone made a deal with someone and they were salty throughout the deal, then it'd be understandable to neg rep them, but neg repping someone for an opinion is just fucking absurd.

I agree that it cannot be fixed, but keep in mind that reputation is one of the largest, if not the only form of verification that a user has prior experience in what they offer. It's definitely not possible to just shift focus on reputation because of how important it is to everyone now, but that is certainly an issue because we have people attacking each other now by neg repping. It's ludicrous

Right, but I don't think it's an awful or impossible thing to do for reputation to be renamed and change up the rules for it. Making is solely for deal related items. Maybe creating multiple sections to reputation making the visible ones deal related and a secondary section for opinionated remarks (not having positive or negative just a list of remarks.)

I agree that the rep system is definitely necessary and works to some extent, as it serves as somewhat of a communal verification, but also I also agree change would be warranted. There's no way the system could be perfected obviously, nonetheless it could be improved tremendously.
