Old minecon codes

So a pal of mine went to Minecon back in 2013 and recently unearthed the email he got with two codes in it one of which is presumably unused.
Given that old OG game codes for capes don't work anymore we obviously can't just click the link.
Checking through NameMC it is quite evident that numbers for capes are still going up (2013, 2012, 2011) which begs the question how those fellas go about contacting Mojang..
Like it'd be a shame if the code was being wasted right?

As far as I know, 2012-2016 game codes all still work. You could, um, give to me and I'll see what I can do... *cough cough*
No but seriously, I don't really have much experience with capes so I'd suggest asking someone like Doge or Landon1

2013 capes are worth the least if i'm not mistaken, not sure if codes are the same. Aren't 2016 codes about equal (due to higher demand but also higher supply?)

nah idk saw on doge's twitter whenever he buys new codes he tweets saying like "This is the worth the price of a new gaming pc" "This is worth the price of a new phone" shit like that.

The cape count on NameMC still go up mostly because of names which have a cape were never searched on NameMC before, and then NameMC will cache it. Mojang themselves no longer redeem any cape codes prior to 2016, so you have to send the request via the endpoint which was responsible for redeeming cape codes. The method is public but most people still don't know that, so you may be able to find it on here or in some discord servers.

Cape count on namemc increases after it caches a new account with a cape (and codes too).
If a name with a cape has never been searched before, until it IS searched, it will not show up. (For ex: thats why it namemc only shows that theres 48k steve skins when in reality theres probably hundreds of thousands). Once it is searched it is cached into their database and can now be viewed publically.
2011 capes cannot be applied anymore since they were never given out as "codes". 2012+ can be applied today, but you can't simply insert the code onto the minecraft.net website and redeem it, there's extra steps now.
dxn or Doge should be able to guide you through the steps

I tried to find a way to reach support but they revamped it and it's now 95% community based I'd say - like it's easy to suggest it works that way but I haven't found out how
