Alright I forgot who suggested this on another thread (think it was Ivain),
But wanted to make an actually thread for it not just a post.

So basically I've seen alot of new members/low rep members bid some money on an account, then someone will outbid them.
That means they go bid on more accounts and if the outbidder retracts they get the blame for retracting too as they already bought an account.

E.G
User 1 : Bid $50
OP : Noted
User 2 : Bid $70
OP : Noted
*user 1 bids on another accounts and wins, meaning he has no money*
*user 2 backs out*
OP : User 1, User 2 retracted so you have top bid
User 1 : I bought an account so no money
OP : Reported.

This should be changed, once you've been outbid you're free to not be reported and buy other account.

it seems like common sense, i didnt know that the rule applied to the next immediate person who is in line to bid for an item, all consequence should fall on the guy who backed out.

You would obviously need to say something along the lines of;
"I'm retracting my bid because (blank) has outbid me."
If you do that, everything should be good.
yeah.

Honestly, I don't even think that should be needed. As soon as someone beats you, you lose the obligation. you then get the choice.
Did you suggest this on another thread?

yes, I suggested what I just said, that people should automatically lose the obligation when outbid, though ofc it would be courtesy to retract the bid still.
This is also how it goes for IRL auctions, afaik. if you bid, you're stuck to it until you're outbid. If the person who outbid you fails to pay, they go into debt (for mcm, that's the appropriate warning points for not following up), but the other person is not expected to take up the bid afterwards.

If someone legit reports you for retracting a bid... that's stupid. It's common sense as well for the seller to not expect you to continue bidding if you haven't replied when he quoted you saying you've been outbid.

This is already what we do. If someone else retracts their bid you're not going to be expected to pay up for something that you've already been outbid on.

I'll move this to denied, thanks for the suggestion.
