Is adhd a disorder that really needs medication for treatment or not?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It varies person to person depending on the severity.

My brother suffers from a combination of ADHD and Autism, he has been on medication for them both for the past year and a half, and they have helped him tremendously. Before he was on the medication he was violent, and would lash out at teachers and students, and temper tantrums were very common in our house, however after he started taking medication, he was much more well behaved. This could have been the combination of ADAH and Autism. I personally feel that ADAH meds are over prescribed, especially in children.

I have ADHD and personally the first time i took the medication they gave me the wrong amount and it literally drove me into a state of insanity i started hearing and seeing things and shit. Then when i started taking the correct amount it really didn't make a difference at all and i stopped taking it well over a year ago and nothing has really changed.

ADHD is a legit disorder, it means you're incapable of focusing on any one thing for any length of time.
However, in the last decade or so, it has been seriously overdiagnosed and overmedicated. Just because a kid is hyperactive or distracted during class does not mean he has a form of ADHD that needs medication. He might just, you know, be bored out of his mind with the stupid classes he gets.

so yes, ADHD is a thing, and the medication that helps them focus can make it easier to live with. But a large portion of those diagnosed with "ADHD" don't actually have it, or if they do they don't have it so bad that they need meds for it.
Nor are meds the only solution.

Yes. My step-brother without his medication was an absolute nightmare. With his medication, he was a totally different person. You really can't understand the wonders of medication and it is easy to judge until you see it working.

Being a person with past experience with every known ADHD medication on the highest dose. It doesn’t work, it will help you focus, but for how long? How long until you overcome this medication. As well, when I was on the medicine I barely weighed over 95lbs in 8th grade, after that I stopped taking it. I gained over 70lbs since the medication makes you not hungry. And I’m not 5”7’ and 160lb when just 6 yrs ago I barely weighed 95lbs and 4”11’. I disagree with the use of ADHD medicine, they will have to learn how to focus and pay attention on there own, it is a learned behavior.
It's not all learned behaviour, the worst cases definitely need meds. There's something like a gradient, and just throwing meds at them whatever is not gonna help in the long run. It's like pumping someone full of morphine for a scraped knee. Treatment needs to be tailored to the individual case, and in my experience the best psychologists and doctors already do this. But it's too rare

For a buddy of mine it was a life-saver. Complete batshit insane before he started using it and then used it for 5 years and stopped at the age of 19. Its not a yes/no works/doesnt work thing, some people need it, some people dont, anybody saying otherwise might hurt someone who listens

As someone with ADHD, I can say for certain, the medicine is important as a child. I took Straterra and Concerta growing up, and it really helped me in school, though the extended release effects did end just an hour after I got home. I stopped taking it after High School (after my doctor decided it wasn't needed anymore) and gained a very large amount of weight.

I've taken Concerta when I was younger and wasn't a fan of, I kept having suicidal thoughts and simply didn't wanna do anything with life. But, it all depends on the severity of the person as well. Anyone who doesn't pay attention to school is just labeled as "oh, she/he has ADHD, let's give them Ritalin".

For some, yeah it can be beneficial but for others it just degrades their quality of life from what I have seen.

In my case it helps me focus a ton, I started taking my adhd medicine again this school year and my gpa and grades overall have seen a drastic change. I was previously a D C student because K struggled with focusing and paying attention, and now i’m a A B student, and while it isn’t all just the medicine that changed(my work ethic, my goals, etc) it is definitely a huge part in my academic success this school year.
