2FA is great but holy shit the fact that this "migration" is mandatory is so BAD and kinda scary.

100% agreed. I like the idea of having 2FA and better recovery system, but the fact that they're like "yeah, you've been playing this game for 9 years? doesn't matter, you are being forced to change your accounts and make another microsoft account"

I love Microsoft, and have to say this is purely shocking. I can definitely tell you that there's going to be hundreds of customers not having access to their accounts, effectively removing what they paid for.

Pretty fucking idiotic move there.

I love the new security features, it's well worth it for those who have played the game for years and continue to play it to this day. However, I know many people who used to play Minecraft but have abandoned their accounts. Will that mean that these older players will be forced to buy a new account if they ever wish to return to the game?

But if this does go through and people lose access to their accounts, does this mean that tons of usernames will become available? Particularly OGs and Semi-OGs? I'd like to know because this could be huge for alt collectors.

No, I very much doubt they'll release usernames. It will probably be a situation wherein any unmigrated accounts will just stay there until they're migrated, but people wont be able to play. However speculation is kinda pointless here, especially given the timespan of the migration plus the uncertainty already.

Was talking about this the other week - https://ally.ws/i/5zsH68Itl0Dog6mc.png.

It's kinda inevitable considering that Mojang is, whether we like it or not, a part of Microsoft. And honestly I can understand them wanting to centralise all the versions of Minecraft on to their platform.

A couple of issues I've had though

- MultiMC/custom launcher support? Eh already dealt with here - https://github.com/MultiMC/MultiMC5/issues/3392

- Microsoft authentication is seriously bad, it's buggy, glitchy and depends on far too many services to be operating on a person's computer, or a perfect internet connection, to function. Microsoft's account system in general is just so convoluted. Store account is separate to Xbox account for example.

I truly hope Microsoft improves their front-end account systems but understandably they're really large so nothing that we can do about that . So long as I can keep my name, account details and whatnot then I'm fine from here. And finally 2 factor authentication... ahh security at last. No more terrible Mojang home-brewed security. :salute:

100% agree with microsoft's authentication being bad, unless you look at their business authentication for accounts - From what I've experienced in industry, that auth is better than the ways that they manage the really shit front-end for consumer authentication

I see this as a win/lose situation they are pros and cons of it.

Pros:
- Makes account safer
- new cape
- kinda ends alt shops

Cons:
- Microsoft 2fa is buggy
- if you have multiple account it’s going pain in the ass to migrate them
- The new cape could be smart move as it might devalue all the other caps and stop people from selling them
- account selling will become a pain but will be still possible probably
- alt shops will probably just cracking peoples Microsoft accounts

but we see how it goes

Clearly, they're cracking down on selling. First, they shut down account selling right here on MCM, now they're: devaluing capes with the new one for Java players; forcing higher security on accounts; and migrating away from old accounts effectively locking lost ones forever.

Its just a huge win for Microsoft.

They get to advertise more of their services.
Oh you have a Microsoft account you can now use Outlook.
Oh you have a Microsoft account, welcome to xbox fucker.
Oh you have a Microsoft account, you can use word online for free.

It's just putting the regular consumer deeper and deeper into the Microsoft ecosystem. They are taking away an acount which they bought for refusing to enter the Microsoft ecosystem.
