Hey all,

I did an interest check on a particle images plugin about a month ago, and I found a decent amount of interest. That, combined with the continuing lack of support for existing particle-based display plugins, led me to create ParticlePics, a plugin that allows you to display small images in-game via particles. I'm doing a sort of a closed-beta, as I am making the plugin compatible with a range of MC versions, so I'd like to give out a couple of VC's to reputable, knowledgeable members of the community who are willing to give the plugin a decent testing, doing more than the usual VC "glance-over". With that feedback, I'm hoping to improve the plugin before I put it up for public sale here (Planning on using Sellfy, but if anybody has suggestions for something else I'm open to hearing them).

NOTE: Scroll down to next post for example images!

The plugin is based off of customization, giving the end user access to every available setting on the images. All of these settings are easily updated in-game, on an image-to-image basis, via commands. The current list of customizable settings is:
  • Image file: You can change which image file each in-game image reads from on the fly, and this supports, to my knowledge, most standard image types (I.E. PNG's, JPG's, etc). All image files can just be placed in the plugin's folder (The folder with the config, for those unfamiliar).
  • EDIT: Now supports gifs! Examples in post below!
  • Image location: Pretty self explanatory, supports up to 1/100 of a block adjustments in all directions to allow for complete placement control.
  • Image rotation (on / off): All images also come with a togglable rotation feature that spins the image around automatically in a seamless loop.
  • Image rotation rate: Allows speed control of the image rotation. As a note, higher refresh rates are usually needed if you want to spin the image faster (otherwise it looks jerky if you are trying to spin it too quickly without a proper refresh rate).
  • Image refresh rate: How many ticks before the image is refreshed. Default is 3, any longer is not recommended as most players experience image flickering, changing this to 2 or even 1 will increase image smoothness in rotation, but can increase server load on larger images.
  • Image angle: For stationary images (generally, although you could use this to reset a spinning image to a certain point if you wanted to for... Some reason? xD), allows 360 degree rotation.
  • Image scale: Controls the spacing between each particle (a pixel of the image). Setting this lower will make a more dense image, setting it higher can create a larger image from the same-sized file, at the cost of making the image appear less solid.
The system also includes in-game readings of any image's stats for this info, allowing you to see existing values and tweak accordingly.

As you can see, this system gives you total customization of the image. Each particle represents a pixel of the image, and as such, images are not advised to be very big (you will likely want to shrink most of them, or you will cause significant lag to both the client (if your computer isn't great)and / or the server (if the server has to constantly update all those particles). In my tests, 64 x 64 worked with minimal lag on my so-so computer, but I would personally advise a maximum of 32 x 32 if you intend to use more than one image. Not to worry, however, as with proper density this can still produce a good quality image.

I am looking for requests to post example pictures if anybody has any particular images (i'll even record a rotating gif for you of your picture if you ask ;) ), maximum 32 x 32 for request pictures for gifs, 64 x 64 for non-gifs (my computer doesn't like trying to record a gif while also updating large spinning images) please.

Comments, questions, concerns welcome, and price suggestions if you're able (I will specifically request these from VC receivers). Again, VC's only for high-rep (no, 2 doesn't count :p ) users, as I want to make sure I'm not distributing this plugin any more than I need to before figuring out sale information. Specific information on plugin usage is available on request, and a rundown of the commands (although they're all displayed in-game through the base command) can be given. Thanks!

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

Reserved for example images!

Here's one everybody should recognize:

another one that I found lying around uh... "nearby" (not hard to guess where these images are coming from, aye? :p ) Let's see if this will embed now. This one shows off the rotation feature!

To clarify, the jump after the second rotation isn't from the plugin, but just from where I stopped the GIF.

Here's one I pulled from online. It's only a 64 x 64, but it ran without any jitter so I went with it. Shows the pretty smooth color transitions that the particles offer, even on this small of an image for what it's showing.

Wanted to show something that was both well-known, and also on the larger side, so here's the Eye of Sauron from LotR. Lost a bit of the corner due to some bad paint.net skills :p

For those curious, I wanted to show what a stand-still image looks like, with the particle update. In my opinion, many images look rather cool with the way the particles drift (such as the chrome logo shown here):

And, just because I thought it would be cool, gifception time: A gif of a gif, in Minecraft! Gif support is being worked on, this is the prototype :)

Anddd how about another one? :D
