https://www.spigotmc.org/threads/paypal-has-quietly-banned-game-modification-sales.470925/

For the people that can't access the forum:
Hello,

I've wanted to let everyone know that PayPal is taking action against anyone who is selling anything game modifications related, be it mods, plugins, hacks etc., they are unable to differentiate between them. I was on a 40 minute call with them yesterday (wasn't able to record it in time, called through skype as only PayPal US was able to explain this and I'm not from the country), had managers explain to me what they are doing.

Their explanation was that games are meant to be played how they are released and according to them having plugins, mods, any changes done this way causes unfair advantages. They said that US is starting to regulate it and they have internally banned selling of game modifications (in our case plugins). I was suggested to find an alternative bank which is not based in USA otherwise this will be repeated.
They would not explain in depth how they are detecting such sales, but I was told that anyone who has sent a transaction to my account is being monitored by them and will have the same consequences if found selling game modifications (I'm assuming more people are being checked as well not only my buyers).

I was able to find 2 other people who have had the same experience, as you some may be aware of one certain marketplace for plugins has warned us about it and they have switched away from PayPal, now it makes a lot of sense, I doubted them back then but now that it has happened to me, it's extremely worrying.
I'm not happy about not recording the call as it would have made things way clearer, that's a mistake on my end. If anyone doesn't believe this I'll call them, ask about it and record the call so I could share it.

I wanted to know if any new payment gateways can be added to Spigot (e.g. Xsolla, it supports 700+ different gateways and combine them into one (e.g. buyers can use paypal, paygol, paysafecard, bank transfer, even cash in some countries), they have less fees than paypal (1.25% and $0.20) but would open up to way more gateways and they do payouts directly to bank for us, so wouldn't have to deal with paypal.

Tldr; PayPal has banned selling of game modifications internally and I would like to know if new gateways can be added to prevent this.

I can confirm that it's a thing, it also happened for me on the same day that GC was banned.
Be aware of that, withdraw the money you have on your accounts right now and think about alternatives for Paypal.

This is fake, it has been brought up numerous times ever since the sale of premium plugins had started (around 2014).

Many developers don't make a large amount of money from that, so Paypal doesn't check them or ban them.
However, there are some people that make enough money that Paypal will actually take actions against them, and will probably go after other developers as well.
Don't be denial.

This topic has been brought up numerous times on SpigotMC and has been disproved each time, especially since that one time [Censored] faked a call with paypal. I'm not sure about other people, but for me everything has been working fine, I have even won a few disputes related to server configurations. If this was true then Minecraft Servers in general would be in big trouble since a large sum of them use Paypal as a payment gateway. Selling in-game items to a minecraft server that give an advantage would count right? I read the Spigot post and this is what they say;[DOUBLEPOST=1604951371][/DOUBLEPOST]

I know that they faked calls and many other things. They are banned because of other things probably.
Both of us, GC and I, were banned on the same day, for the same reason - breaking their terms. They didn't want to tell me why they banned me, but GC managed to get in a call with them and they didn't tell much, but that they aren't allowing that.
You can choose to believe us, you can choose to not - not my problem. I warn the people here so they won't wake up one day and see that Paypal permanently limited their account with a few thousands on their account (which was obviously my fault, but that's not the point)

I suspect my Paypal was banned for this a few days ago. The only activity on it was Mc-Market payments & private sales for plugins.

Just a theory though. Not sure how they made the connection for private sales, and I definitely don't make enough for just Mc-Market to put any kind of target on my back.

But how can they tell who is selling minecraft plugins? Are they using some kind of way to tell where it's coming from eg Mc-Market...

Would this also count for servers that are selling ingame perks, even if they are not violating any Mojang related TOS/EULAs?
Or would these also count as modifications of the original games, servers are a big thing and most people in fact use PayPal to make purchases.

Not too surprising to see this coming since PayPal stops working with the owners of minecraft related forums and limits their accounts. I'd suggest adding more payment options and gateways to bypass this, although I definitely don't beleive that they'll check everyone. Till now only Developers that make higher monthly incomes with plugins or mods have been banned, and not even all of them.

Does this also correlate at all to server donations (Unfair advantage within an already established game)? Had this happen to me ages ago when I owned a server prob was why.
