Unless of course the backpack is made out of books.....
In which case it depends on your definition of "in".
Since depending on if you consider a backpack within itself, having contained itself... The backpack made of books would therefor be capable of containing literally infinite books. Or none. Again, depending on how you choose to look at it.

Because you never stated that they had to be in there all at the same time.
