Hey i want to know what you all think the best way to retain players is. Obviously the more unique your server is the more likely they are going to stay.

What do you think of a first-join tutorial area? For example when players first join they walk through a small tutorial explaining the server. Do you think this will improve player retainment?

What other things will help retain more players?

Also what is considered to be a good retainment? I have seen servers who have playerbases of 100 - 300 have up to 200,000 unique joins which is pretty crazy

The way you retain your players really depends on the type of server you have. As you stated, originality definitely helps, however you will (probably) have difficulty retaining players if your gametype is compeletly original. This is due to the fact that most people are simply lazy- they would prefer a gametype they may already know (such as factions) over say, a custom pvp server, in which they will have to spend time learning how to play. As for your tutorial, I would personaly recommend making it optional, with perhaps an incentive to perform the tutorial when they join.

Here is some methods for retaining players:

- Offer a rank up system, people absolutely love leveling up in games and gets them addictided to the game, and subsequently your server.

- First impressions are everything. It helps to have friendly players and staff to greet the new players, although not necessary. Your #1 priority should be your spawn, as that is the first thing they see.

- Chat should be clean, and non-clattered. Stay away from a large amount of announcements.

- Events are also important, and can help encourage players to come back

Let me know if you have any questions, being a previous server owner, I know how it feels to be in that position. Rate this post if it helped!
