Hey so iv'e recently opened up a server and its a decent server that includes factions and skyblock , with some custom features good kits and other good stuff but players don't seem to be joining, maybe i'm advertising wrong, I don't know. Here's the IP: play.hybridwavemc.net please join and tell me whats wrong or what could use fixing or adding. I see much worse servers have like 50 players on and I just don't understand it. Thanks for reading !

Same issue here, I recently opened a Skyblock server which from my most objective possible perspective really is not that bad, at least better than some Skyblock servers that have 100+ players online every day. I managed to build a playerbase of about 10-15 players now through advertising on PMC and server listing websites but it's not growing anymore. Tried contacting Youtubers but 99% of the smaller ones are jus a bunch of greedy little kids who will scam you at every chance they get and are completely delusional when it comes to pricing (asking like $20 per video even if they only get a couple hundred views/video). I'm generalizing of course, I'm sure there are good small Youtubers out there, but I can't seem to find them. The bigger ones are just not within the budget of small new servers like us. Same for server listing sites; The small ones that are affordable for small servers will hardly make a noticable difference, and the popular ones are very very pricey, and just purchasing a popular slot for a couple of hours probably won't do good for player retention, I doubt any of them will return the next day unless you have a popular slot again the next day, which again is really really pricey.

So yeah, it's like a vicious cycle; Cheap advertisements don't do much for a server, and you need to be a big server to be able to afford the more effective advertisements like popular slots and youtubers. I feel like the only way to get a server off the ground nowadays (except for extreme luck, richdaddy investments, etc.)is if you personally have a large sum of money (at least $2500, but probably much more) to get a server off the ground and get a reasonable playerbase, but spending $2500 of your own money on a brand new server that has never gotten more than maybe a dozen ort wo players online just seems a bit risky to me. I wish there was a way to start small and gradually work to becoming a bigger server, but I don't see any advertisement methods that could make that happen, unless you just happen to know a whole bunch of small-medium size youtubers who are actually reasonable people who record for a normal price and do not try to scam you at every opportunity...
