Hello, as you may have seen I posted a sample of my portfolio earlier this week and I got a lot of positive feedback although I still am not satisfied with the design and usability. I was wondering if anyone could give me some ideas on a more original portfolio design.

Here is the newer design I've been working, but I'm afraid it's too awkward and informal:

Please give me any recommendations/ideas (They don't need to be completely related to the design I gave, I'm very flexible in changing the design)

First things first, you need to be more confident in your work. Nothing about the picture shown is awkward or informal, it is actually a very clean and simple design (which in my opinion is always the best).
Thanks, but my main issue is I don't want to look too generic, I kinda want to stand out a bit; be different.

Wanna not be generic? Change the subtitle. Everyone is always listing their languages/frameworks. Get rid of it and put the languages you know on the about page. I'll probably use JavaScript to make a simple image slider to to make the background more interesting and interactive but that's just me. I know you use hamburger menus for mobile but it'll be cool if you moved to nav to a sidebar and use JS to listen for clicks on a hamburger menu icon and the menu slides out from the left with a transparent background.
My main queston is if it make more sense to go with a more formal design with white and blue accents rather than a more playful design like the one I listed above.

Looks amazing!

to be honest, i would choose a skillful website over a boring professional looking one any day.

If you want it to look even cooler, try particle.js. No one wants to see plain "professional" sites, they want to see the skills they came to hire you for! :)
