Possible Server Creation [Need Feedback]

Hey, I'll make this quick and simple. I want to start my own server up, again but I want to take the right approach with it and be careful with the steps I take in building some form of server/network in the future.

When I used to make servers, in the past, I always stuck with Factions and they did pretty well but nowadays Factions is a dead game mode and nobody plays it anymore due to the new minecraft EULA.

What is a good and safe game mode to start with?
I was thinking survival but I personally don't enjoy survival and I don't want to make a server I don't like.

SMP is basically the new Factions monetary wise. SkyBlock is also a good way to go if you are able to create new, unique features.

There is so many SMP's releasing nowadays the competition is almost impossible to challenge. There isn't a lot you can really add to SMP's that other servers haven't done therefore there would be no reason to play a smaller server rather than a bigger one, if you get me.

Well, I am not really in a position to give advice, but I would think that the best game mode to go with is one you enjoy?

Whether factions is dead or not, with the right people and your own personal touches and flairs on your server, you can be more unique and could be successful? The only thing is factions definitely would need more people than survival - I would think unless you have a bunch of people willing to start up with you, factions would be harder to get successfully going?

What about skyblock like c0ntxt suggested? You could always branch out to other game modes once you get the right people with you?

Same as Bedwars, SkyWars, Splegg, TTT, CityBuild and every other popular gamemode. It‘s all about marketing and giving your players a nice experience. There would be no other server besides Hypixel if everyone wants to play on the biggest server.
