Private Programming Lessons
About Me
Hi, my name's Ammar T and I teach programming, I'd been teaching for about 6 months when I made this thread and I'd just started to get the hang of how to approach people in a teaching environment; keeping the lessons engaging both educationally and providing an ample amount of amusement within the lessons. I did this by utilising a fairly informal manner of speech when in the lessons to allow us to engage on a more personal basis which helps to augment the learning experience. Now that I've been doing this for more than 4 years, I've learnt a lot more alongside my students about programming as well as about the way to approach my lessons.

Other than that I'm from the UK so time-zoning may be an issue for students from Australia and other such regions where weekend lessons would be the best option.

What I Teach
I teach a multitude of high-level programming languages such as Java, C++, C# and Python; in each of these languages I have over 5 years of experience minimum. I do teach the Bukkit API but if basic Java hasn't been covered yet we will go over that before we start on it to avoid confusion (Personal experience). I can also teach game development in Java using LibGDX from which we can port to HTML5/JS, PC/Mac/Linux and Android.

Lessons
Lessons are conducted over Skype using the screen-share feature and neither a microphone nor speakers/headphones are necessary but both are strongly recommended. The lessons last roughly an hour each however they can spill over this limit free of charge.

Pricing
I like to keep my pricing fair and affordable and so I charge £4/lesson. Payment can be sent over PayPal or using this link if you'd prefer to use a credit/debit card. There are some offers if lessons are bought in bulk and are as follows:
  • 10 lessons - £35
  • 20 lessons - £65
  • 30 lessons - £90
  • 40 lessons - £115
  • 50 lessons - £130
  • 60 lessons - £150
  • 1 lesson / week - £3 / week
  • 5 lessons / month - £15 / month
  • 10 lessons / month - £27.50 / month
  • 20 lessons / month - £55 / month
  • 30 lessons / month - £75 / month
  • The number of lessons given is perishable on timed packages meaning that if lessons are not used by the end of the month, they do not carry over to the next month.
  • Refunds are under my discretion. Any unauthorized charge-backs made will result in a Scam Report being made and a response to any PayPal claims you have made; linking this page and it's TOS in.
  • It is the student's responsibility to message me about lessons.
  • Terms of Service are subject to change at any time.
  • By purchasing any package from me, you automatically agree to the Terms of Service.

As an extra note, I do accept equivalent CS:GO skins as well (Reasonable bounds, cheaper by a few GBP).
Any chargebacks will result in a Scam Report being filed against you and legal action being taken due to the breaking of the Terms of Services.

Nice that you are running this but why would anyone pay for lessons... only someone ignorant towards programming would do this... There are millions of free online tutorials that are free and are super good... I personally taught myself Java and took it in school. Currently I am studying up on free tutorials with C ++.

Good luck

Experience. People can't get experience from a tutorial, neither can they ask questions to a tutorial. This has been running for a while now, I suppose people don't like tutorials and the way they go about things.

Uh they can leave comments and there is some online schooling site that my teacher mentioned.. Though I forget its name, but he said that they upload online lessons for free that you can watch and answer questions as HW. You can also ask questions too. The tutorials I think are updated every year.

Also, there is online forum sites to ask questions. Charging people for stuff like this just seems absurd to me, that's all.[DOUBLEPOST=1491170652][/DOUBLEPOST]The best way for ANYONE to learn programming is to see a lesson, then start programming based off of what you just learned. Then do projects every now and then. This is how you should do it. And no, you don't start by watching how to code an MC plugin. You will be completely lost as if I just asked you then to make me a plugin, then you could only do what you just watched and wouldn't be able to explain what you just watched either. Books are great too, but I personally use them (like the Java resource book) as a resource book rather than too learn the language.

You mentioned the phrase teacher. I doubt without a teacher you'd have gone very far - not trying to be offensive - as a teacher can pass on their own experience to you. People have paid for this, time and time again and people are satisfied with this. Also you mentioned a yearly update and the online teachers being able to respond however in a 1-1 session you get the answers instantly rather than having to wait plus there's not always a guarantee of an answer amongst the hundreds of other questions asked.

Also, under your logic, paying for anything is useless as for example someone COULD go out of their way to build their house brick-by-brick and learn to build and do the licensing etc. etc. all by themselves in the span of half a decade if you're lucky OR they could hire a building firm and have it done in a year.

People pay for speed, efficiency and ease - not everyone wants to have to find a good tutorial series or rely on the limited (as they won't be able to go over everything) knowledge of these lessons. Meanwhile if the student wants to know something in a lesson with me they can simply ask.

People on overflow are real people, but I see what you mean.
That's a fair point, but most of the time they won't explain what they're telling you very much. Sorry for the late reply, I've been busy for a long while with my students and preparing for my finals :p.
