PSA: Don't use HostGator

My experience with host gator, stay away.
I signed up to HG almost 2 years ago, being swindled by the cheap prices, I just couldn't resist, boom, I signed up. Basically no customer support, wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole, I'm trying to move my stuff to my dad's uberglobal account which is proving to be a challenge, sorry for the short post, just stay away from them. WHY TO NEVER SIGN UP: basically their support team doesn't know anything above the knowledge base on their site.

Hosting 24 is cheap, their live support isn't amazing, but it's decent, and a free domain.

I tried to register a domain with them
Went like this
Find domain and register/pay for it
Realize I can't redirect domain for some reason
Msg customer support and receive response over a week later
Account/domain gets locked with no refund
Two month argument with shit customer support over the legitimacy of my account/purchase
Few months later domain is released and I purchase it again on namecheap

For people in western europe, Antagonist.nl is probably best. It's a dutch-based hosting company that's quite cheap, but provides excellent quality.

http://geekshosted.com is working out really well for me. They're not the cheapest out there but they have almost 24/7 livechat and great support. Don't use them if you wanna scan though.

What do you mean by scan?

HostGator is part of EIG (Endurance International Group), a company that operates many hosts with the same crappy service as you have received with HostGator.

Avoid these hosts that are part of EIG/HostGator too:

Yeah, my theory to why they give crappy service is that they bloat their service with features and then they afford any support.

You'd be pretty lucky then. Arvixe has been bought by EIG (the same guys that owns HostGator) and their reputation has been gone down the drain since then
