Is it really beneficial to have one of these Anti-VPN plugins on your server? I know they help combat bots but would it really disrupt real players trying to connect?

On the occasion that it does block a real player from connecting, more often than not there is a whitelist feature.

Personally only had very few real players get blocked and had to manually whitelist their IPs.

In my opinion no.

If you do something "bad" enough to get IP banned from a server you probably have VPN's which bypass Anti-VPN plugins.

For the risk of blocking some real connections, it's not worth it imo.

A lot of stupid kids will try ban evade on a shit vpn, so it's worth catching and blocking them

Personally I hate them. Many servers use shitty plugins that use a bad API for check if the ip is legitimate or not. This has resulted in me not being able to log in on multiple servers and I've even had to enable my VPN to bypass the VPN block.

There's loads of vpns which bypass Anti-VPNs, what about residential VPNS and private vpn servers?..

Sure, there are loads that do and there are loads that don't, If you catch them you catch them, you don't you don't. The reality of it is you should be worrying about catching the ones you can, not the ones you can't.

I have had bad experiences with anti VPN plugins, more of the notable issues was that it would block people from joining if they're from a smaller, less known country in which the plugin thought that they were using a VPN, IMO its better to just not use one at all because i'd rather have no possible disruptions from playing as it can ruin the experience completely if you're one of the unlucky players, although I do see the appeal and if you find a good maintained anti VPN plugin I could see it working well, also if you do find one let me know, ill be more than happy to try one out again.
