Question about Contabo

Has anyone here used Contabo for a VPS?
I will mainly use it for Minecraft and other game hosting.

Do you recommend it? I am currently using OVH but Contabo has awesome prices for amazing specs.

If you want a private server for you and your family/friends, then Contabo's an alright choice - if it's a public server then the moment you receive a DDoS attack (and trust me, you will), let's just say your server's going down, down down.

Honestly, Contabo is an amazing company for hosting your server, but if someone tries to ddos it then it'll probably be down in a matter of seconds, then again you could always use cloudflare.

Good point, with the addition of CloudFlare you won't have to worry about any attacks getting through to the server (even if you're on the free plan).

Cloudflare is a HTTP proxy, it's not going to protect or work with game servers if you have the protection enabled.

It's not just an HTTP proxy, you can setup the appropriate records from the dashboard in order to route your traffic through them.

They don't protect any other ports unless you pay for a subscription for them to do so.

There's no way you could know they oversell, and an old CPU doesn't matter as long as you get the resources you paid for. It's perfect for a private server with your friends or family.

You can tell they oversell by how laggy the servers on. About 2 years ago, on the highest package with a single vanilla server with 8 players was extremely laggy.

I currently have an 8GB RAM VPS with 10+ players on at once. It's quite literally one of the smoothest Minecraft servers I've ever been on (and trust me, I've been playing MC for a very long time).

10 players on at once on an 8GB VPS isn't really an achievement.
On an 8GB VPS, I would at least expect around 20-30 players on 1.14.4 to run smoothly, or 5-10 players on a heavily modded server.

The only thing I would use Contabo for is for storage.

It's also quite clear they oversell just based on their plans. No sane host would be selling 60GB ram with 1.6TB of SSD for $30/mo. It's absurd.

You were most likely put on one of their newer nodes.
