Hey guys! I've been thinking about starting an online community for a while now, I want to start a place where people can go on and chat about anything, where people can sell things, chat, rant, argue, join together, showoff, get morale support, anything really.

I have a big problem right now and that is what to use?
Should my community be forum based or discord based?

If anyone would be interested in joining add me on discord and Ill notify you when its open!
DotDevelopment#5645! (Mention your interested in the community or Ill try to sell you some web development xD)

Thanks!

Hello, BotDevelopment As a friendly suggestion I would use a Discord to start your community, it is a easy and manageable platform to run it on, while it is a way to communicate with your community, however make sure you have a great staff team to assist you with managing said community, while following Discord's Terms of Service.
Thanks for the feedback! This is still and idea of course. I will take your feedback into consideration! Discord is a wonderful platform indeed and is certianly something I am interested in using!

So.. wouldn't that be considered a competitor to this site if it was to become a forums?

Not necessarily. This is a minecraft marketplace, where people come to purchase and sell minecraft related things as well as some not minecraft related things. What I want to create is a community, not a marketplace. While members would be able to buy sell and trade freely, there would (probably) be no offical way to do so. It would all be amongst them.

The best idea is to start a discord, hype the members...etc and make a forum or a website. This is a good start imo.

In time I do plan to have both options, but assuming people might be divided between discord and forums, its a good idea to have both, but have a decent sized group of people on both sides.

That's still against the rules.
It would still be classified as a 'competitor'.

Well either way, I was asking a simple question not advertising, I asked scenario: I open an online community, do I use discord or forums.
