Greetings,

So the idiot i am, I accidently deleted my Worlds Folder. Now i am running it off a host and i just added a Support ticket, Now its pretty late so im sure they'll respond during morning. But before i hear the awful news of "No we can't get back your files"

Does anyone here who is a Hosting Provider think that there is any hope to get back my files that was deleted? If so please explain so if my host says no i can show them this thread!

Thank you all so much who will support my question and help me out here!

If the hosting provider is running on linux, it is a definitive no, as the blocks your world resided on on their harddrives have already been overwritten by something else on the machine. If they are running Windows, there is a slight chance it has been moved to the trash bin, but I wouldn't count on it.

This is why backups are so important, at least you learned a valuable lesson now? :)

I heard them say it auto backups every 3 days.

Since the file is already deleted wouldent that still bring the file back to life from those 3 days?

To keep it simple, no.

edit: this was to the original post, obviously if you have a backup it can be restored, sorry for the misinterpretation

If you or they have a backup, yes, it can be restored. But only to the time it was taken.

Just contact your host about getting the world restored. Normolly if they personally keep backups I wouldn't see a problem with them being unable to restore it.

Yes i know, I first contacted them seeing if they can get the full file back, But unfortunately they use linux so my only hope is that they get back the 3 days Backup which im sure they'll do.

I had this problem 3 years ago and I never backed up my server back then, learned my lesson now I have backups every 24 hours.
I see.

My host forces backups every 3 days on there side so I just hope I get atleast half of what me and my co owner builds.

Well apparently there is a way to recover files on Linux, but I don't know if it can recover folders and sub folders.

A file is temporarily recoverable. When the hard drive is told to delete a file, it doesn't actually empty the space, it only marks it as free space. If you loose an important file, immediately cut power to the machine to give the highest possible chance of recovery. You can boot from an USB stick with a rescue program that will scan the full hard drive for blocks that have been marked as free, but contain your file. If something already re-used the space, it is virtually impossible to recover the full data.

So I got 0 response from my hosting provider. They're ignoring my support tickets now. They been going down hill for some time now. The map will just be re made.

Oh well, you learn from your mistakes and you just get back up and do better. This gives me a better success path. Thank you all for your answers and support very much appreciate it!
