Question / help for bungeecord.

Hi, so i've recently invested in a bungeecord hosting system.

But i have some questions before i seriosly dig into this new world of hosting.

1) If i for example have my lobby set to a 1.12.2 spigot.jar file, will players with 1.8 be able to connect if i have viaversion. (Because my skyblock server is a premade server which only supports 1.8.8 spigot!)

2) If i want the total player ammount on my server to display how do i do that?
