$500 isn't a large budget. It's fairly mediocre and basic. For a successful(ish) server you're going to want around 2k, with 1k going towards advertising and the other half going towards everything else.

Depends on the gamemode.

Hosting for servers is like 5% of the budget at most for larger servers.
A £100 dedi is nothing compared to £800/video youtubers.

If you want to make a couple grand in a month and then dip then sure do that method

Ive ran 4 minecraft survival servers and did it becasue I love the community that gets involved in it. Minecraft survivalist are some of the nicest and funnest people to hang out with online. I love'd building the server in my view and the discord as well. Running events was so much fun as well.

If you want to do like a skyblock, factions, something shit then yea you need a big ass budget sure. I dont think you need to be famous though nor have a good community. If your not a good programmer then you can just hire one with that big ass budget. This is only if you want to run really populair server. Talking 300+ people on! Good luck though

Surely, i think there are better methods to make $ than by running a minecraft server (very costly to start out if you don't know what you're doing / chasing good standards could cost you $500 easily with custom plugins, website and all the designs you need to get custom made). I started running a server because it's an enjoyable process... to see my ideas become a real thing and be enjoyed by other people, the process has been very enjoyable for the most part.

Some of the things you might have to pay for :

- Hosting costs
- Website cost
- Advertising cost
- Design costs
- Programmer costs
- Crafting store / tebex
- Website (hosting koala)
- Sysadmin cost (ovh dedicated server)
