Don't purely base your prices off Amazon either. You could probably find a lot of hardware cheaper elsewhere. Newegg, Tiger, Ebay, Craigslist, Reddit, etc. In fact there is a subreddit called /r/hardwareswap where people are constantly selling/buying/trading components on the cheap.

As if Minecraft needs a lot? My Radeon 8800 graphics laptop with an AMD 10 Quad can run Minecraft at 120 FPS...

Your FPS could be subjective. I mean a lot of factors play into that. View distance, texture pack, graphic settings, etc... I get like 1000 FPS staring at a wall. Point is, your extra cores aren't contributing a whole lot to that extra FPS.

Also... people are still building computers with optical drives? My car doesn't even have a CD player anymore. It's time to move on. It's 2015 people. Flash drives, SD cards, and downloads. Literally can't remember the last time I used a CD or DVD.

And did anyone say I was just going to use it for Minecraft? I play CS:GO and a wide variety of other games as well.

As stated before. You don't really need that much of a CPU for Minecraft. Instead, focus on your GPU.

If you're looking for the right CPU however, Minecraft isn't thread-safe. Therefore it runs on one thread.
Here's a ordered list of CPUs with their single-thread performance and price.

Totally wrong about the GPU intensity. Minecraft is much more CPU intensive over GPU, however, not optimized well for multi core. Most games aren't to be honest.
