As some of you may know, my brother is officially in Shueshia INC after winning a one shot competition for Shonen Jump. He also told me give to you all bit of background.

His One Shot took approx 3 months to create. His one shot a was a simple 40 pages. In Shonen Jump, you would need to do that many pages in 2 weeks. His drawing style is so detailed that to make things easier, he decided to pick up a simpler style that would him the possibility of making q page within an hour. So he would like you to give him advice. He he drew this in 7 minutes

"As some of you may know", no, none of us know. And that picture of a head doesn't exactly look good lol
He asks can you more specific?[DOUBLEPOST=1555037891][/DOUBLEPOST]

H said he would, would but it really isn't apart of his priority list since shonen jump manga usually isn't colored in. Anything else you suggest he improves on?

I don't see anything else wrong with it unless he wants to add more detailed items to him to make it look cooler

Heya, I've been looking through your recent posts on this forum and but this in particular caught my attention. I'm currently authoring and animating a web series called La Vie En Rose. While I don't see myself matching with Kishimoto or Okiura, I feel as though I've done well to develop a well rounded sense for traditional anime styles. Usually, I'm not one to obnoxiously introduce myself every time I'd like to make a point- but, I'm making a grueling exception to match up to how highly you've placed your brother.

Frankly, I wholeheartedly doubt that your brother is actually 2017's Chinese-spoken Suguru, author of the 50 page "Regain," or either one of 2018's winners Ou Shukun and Liao Yubin, authors of the 53 page "Funeral." The drawing you provided didn't give me much to work with, but, I don't see a glimpse of relation to any of the submissions from the past two ShonenJump one shot competitions (downscaled detail in the work or not). To be dishonest and hold your brother above the countless talented artists that actually put their heart and soul into the contest is incredibly rude. I do realize though that I'm going off about a detail that's apart from the main point of the thread. So, if you do come up with something to label what you'd said as truthful, I'll gladly take back everything I'd said. But, as I see it, I simply won't believe it and you can leave it at that and disregard me if you'd like.

As for actual critique of the work itself, there's an utter lack of cohesion in the flow of the linework along with no sense of technique. Each line in the illustration of the character conflicts with each other, resulting in an unsatisfying make of a character. Although, a fault in my critique may be that he's simply going for such a style. I find that unlikely though, as many amateur artists have a habit of mindlessly drawing hair with no thought for the impact on the character's design and overall composition. Other elements of the character lead me to believe that he lacks the confidence in his drawing of eyes and any sort of a complex expression. As for the ears and jaw, he seems to have no traditional knowledge whatsoever of the make of a believable human head.

As to improve, I suggest that he take the time to study or at least refer to more traditional practices in human facial structure. There's a reason why kiddos start with basic proportions and perspective in primary school art class. Artists with a taste for anime far too often skip traditional teachings in favor of anime and cool, edgy character designs. I understand why, I mean, students come into an art class expecting something more exciting, but instead are left with basic perspective, anatomy, and all of the grueling basics- farthest as can be from the thrilling world of anime. But, I can't stress enough though how important those basics are. Only then, once you know the basic make of art and design should you then begin dissecting at it and focus on developing a style. Alternatively, you would also be well off simply studying Ghibli or other influential artists and dissect individual aspects from their style. The latter may sound much more exciting, but the former is definitely worthy of consideration even for experienced artists.

Take my thoughts with a grain of salt, I'm incredibly strict towards those under my wing. Yours truly.

There's a competition every month, so I am not sure what you mean by 2017. Also just to say it again, he trying a different style than what he's used to. Also can I see you thing?[DOUBLEPOST=1555045484][/DOUBLEPOST]But yes f the critique ill pass it on, I'll just copy and paste it because I have no idea what you even mean. Not into all of that technical stuff.

We're referring to two different competitions then. I don't know of a monthly one-shot contest sponsored by Shonen Jump. Especially one that accepts entries consisting of 40 pages. If that were true then your brother must've missed the two previous competitions as he'd taken the liberty of three months to produce his one-shot. I also don't know of any monthly Shonen Jump one-shot competitions that would catch the attention of Shueshia. Especially if your brother is foreign. A link would be helpful.

As for La Vie En Rose, everything that has been released and will be released regarding it is on my Instagram @ vividlydraws. You'll realize though that it's close to none.

I’m handicapped when it comes to trying to draw or create anything remotely artistic so I say good job!
