Ratted? Looking for help?

So around a month back I purchased a steam account from someone, he was generally trusted and all. Anyways about 2 days ago the account was compromised by some random guy, however the way he hacked the account was through my contact email somehow. The email was just an alternate email that i used to sign up for accounts and shit so it didn't have any protection on it (Stupid me) and the password was last update in 2011 :__:. I've been told that the only way for him to get into my email was if I was ratted or have a virus. Now I'm honestly just worried that I'm somehow ratted even though I don't download anything without running it through Virustotal and my paid antivirus program Webroot. The passwords were different between the account and the email and i'm just confused on how he managed to get both of these details if I wasn't ratted? I've looked through all my programs and task manager and I honestly see nothing odd. I'm really asking for anyone that knows of a way I can for sure find out if I'm ratted or have some sort of virus. I'm just a bit skeptical after what has just happened.

You must locate the rat files remove the files by dragging them to the trash. if its a Trojan rat your screwed and need a new computer. I don't have any rat retrieving software sadly I could code something up with in the next 2 days that would remove the account cracking files but i you may still have some issues between now and then. He doesn't need a new computer, all he has to do is format his hard drive then reinstall his operating system lol
