They were recently disabled due to security flaws, but security flaws can almost always be fixed. Some people spent good money on a dedicated profile cover illustration. At least have it be something the user can enable or disable themselves.

They sent out a tweet announcing it, but I just spent around $20 on a banner dedicated to be my profile cover, and now it's gone :(

I'm not sure how it's a security problem either, but until that is resolved we're not seeing it again, I think
