Hi! I'm Annie!
Y'all might have seen me about, offering my writing services and lurking around, giving advice on threads about server management and unwanted pregnancies.
Now that I'm staff, I figured it would be time to make one of these, as well address some concerns about the recent staff promotions. So let's get into things.
It looks like a lot of people have issues with (especially) me in this staff wave. I can understand that, I don't have a lot of reputation and I've only recently begun being active again on this site. However, I have over seven years of experience with minecraft, project management and client-centric discipline, which you can read more about in my About Me. I believe that this is why the staff contacted me to offer this position.
So please be patient and graceful with your judgement! Before receiving the position offer, I saw a lot of dissent going around about the lack of moderation staff -- now we're here to help! We've received our training and instructions, and will be working to clear the backlog of tickets between you and the staff team, so that we can get communication streamlined and as fast as possible.
Regardless, the point of this thread is: please stop hounding the staff members over this! I've only recently begun to get to know them, but they're wonderful people who are visibly doing all they can for the site.
If you have any qualms about my ability to perform and simply can't wait long enough to see the new staff wave come into their positions, please direct your frustration and indignance to my PMs or otherwise, and I'll be happy to engage in any discussion.
Okay, so now, my actual About Me:
I'm a Writing, Rhetoric & Composition / English Textual Studies: Creative Writing senior at Syracuse University, which are each different things that I could spend hours explaining, but to spare your braincells, let's just say I do things with words, a lot.
My work is tentatively hosted at annieshi.me, if you're interested in stories that are exclusively about magic and/or lesbians. I'm also setting up a game-writing page on that portfolio so you guys have a reason to go there besides the magical lesbians.
(Be warned that if you give me even one (1) comment on my work, I may immediately shrivel into myself and disappear for 1-5 business days, from the mortifying ordeal of being known.)
Besides writing, I also dabble in digital art and graphic design -- I create all graphics I use on here myself. I used to have a minor in computer art and animation, but the extra tuition would have annihilated my Instant Ramen funds so I left after about a year. So I'm a very amateurish, self-taught "artist", but I do enjoy it very much.
I started my experience with Minecraft networks when I was 14, starting with Desteria, a factions network. I joined during its first month of opening, and stuck with it for three years, watching it grow from a server with 20 people to 3,000, at one point. Since then, I've worked at LemonCloud and SpaceDelta, but I've recently returned to help oversee Desteria's expansion into skyblock.
I've been working on a small pet / passion project (an RPG Pixelmon server) for a year or so now, but I don't know if I'll ever release it, since adult life so far has just been a series of "I'm sure next month will be less busy" while things progressively get more exponentially more busy.
I've been tempted to start up a Management thread here, as I've picked up a few project management skills during my time, but have decided to stick with one or two networks -- I don't think I can reasonably spread my time between more than that.
I used to offer general writing services, but I've had to shut that down due to some chronic health issues (what's a healthy endocrine system? i don't know her) so now I offer exclusively resume-writing/design services, which has had a healthy amount of satisfied customers so far.
This year is senior year, so I don't have many classes -- I was looking forward to this break for four years! I spent the first week lounging around the house, bored, then immediately enrolled in two internships -- copywriting for the university department's website, as well as editing for the CCDP, a digital publication. I'm also working a full-ish time job writing copy for an international file-management solution company. And also on the e-board of my uni's writing student org.
(I like to say if I'm not really living if I don't have hours worth of work weighing down on me, but maybe that's not all that healthy. All this has absolutely drilled into me good time-management practices and project-organization skills, though!)
So yeah, that's all the things about me that are relevant to my new position, I think. Please never hesitate to strike up a conversation with me, about writing, or just to chat.
I'm looking forward to working with and for you guys on MCM!
