You're an imbecile, you obviously don't know what I'm talking about, it's the brand. Ahh yes, Apple's amazing reputation, which they fucked up when they split with microsoft :L
I believe you have no idea what your talking about. They were never a part of microsoft.

You think people buy it for that reason, and they don't. Unless you don't care what you do with your money, normal people think a lot before buying a PC. Macs are great computers, and do everything well. They just aren't for gaming (unless you buy an iMac which cones with NVidea GForce graphics)
Macs are overpriced. You're paying for the little logo in the middle.

If this topic is still relevant to the OP, here's what I use for a laptop:

http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/lenovo/y-series/y500/

As for your post:
Pros: 15", number pad, lots of power, dedicated graphics, back-lit keys.
Cons: Heavy (that's literally my only con to list)

However, you probably will be able to pick a newer model of this laptop for relatively the same price and it will be ~8/9k under your budget.

Geez guys, just because I'm saying 10k budget doesn't mean I'm an idiot. I don't know much about hardware so I threw a high number out there so people's suggestions wouldn't be restricted by cost.

The point is that I'm willing to spend whatever I need to so that I can have a solid laptop that I can use throughout college and beyond. If in some unlikely situation I actually end up spending anywhere near 10k on a laptop it better still be one that'll last me for years.

Anyways from the links that were posted, I can probably put together something satisfactory for ~$4k and and then get a couple screens and other peripherals.

Same person willing to pay $1k for a domain name. Some people on this forum don't understand the value of a dollar.

1. There's no need to be condescending here.
2. Different people are in different financial situations. Some people on this forum might have more money than you do.
3. With regards to the domain name, I have my reasons for wanting to acquire it and I am willing to pay that price for it.

Apart from code and watching pornography, what else are you going to be using it for?

CAD, gaming, etc. Nothing horribly resource-intensive but I tend to multitask a lot.
By the way thanks for the link you posted, it's really useful.

Get a desktop xD
Since you have the budget, I recommend an extreme edition CPU. (Intel obviously)
The i7-4960X is a good choice. Coupled with some wam, nice. Also someone in a group chat I'm in uses the GTX 780Ti, and he recommended it,l so I will too. (stats: http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Graphics-cards-best-Passmark-score-5825384)
He probably needs a laptop for a reason. Laptops are extremely useful for school, desktops aren't too great it.
If I were to be picking a school computer, I would definitely go with a laptop.

Micro desktop then. They're great.
The point of a laptop is it being portable, you can take it to class for notes, record your lectures, etc.. Very useful. A micro desktop is still the same as a desktop, they aren't portable.
Also, Ronbo, a pretty good idea would be to spend $2k on your laptop, then donate the rest to the MCMarket foundation of research for better MC sales. Just saying.

Simple. you put the monitor slightly tilted on the case, it doesn't need to be a big monitor. The mouse you can have as an attatchment on the side, and the keyboard can go on your lap.
Or...you could just get a laptop...
