Before we start…


Hello. My name is signition. I have run Korean minecraft server for few years. My Last server was maintained for around 1 year and 3 months. The server had around 250 concurrent players during vacation, and around 150 at other times. There are very limited minecraft players in Korea, and the biggest server only has less than 200ish player currently ( April 25, 2018 ) I had temporarily closed server for some personal reason. This “personal reason” is somewhat long to explain, but briefly speaking, I was tired of checking and maintaining server, lost interest and motivation, and lost reason why I was doing it. Now, I decided to start over again with some other plan. Unlike past times, I decided to make dev team, make server much bigger and greater to fulfill my desire to make better server, and to provide better gaming experience to minecraft player, and ultimately make more players to be attracted to minecraft in Korea. When the project is ready, server will be launched both in Korea and United States. It is possible that I am going to connect two instances with redis, but that is problem to consider after finishing project, so I won’t bother to worry too much about it at this moment. I am actively recruiting members now, and actual project will not start until team is ready to be launched. I will talk about this more if you are interested in , or if you are accepted as one of our team members. I am currently recruiting developers, planners, and builders, but I am trying to recruit builders from this post. # two or more factions or kingdoms are conflicting each other ( detailed world setting required )

# Player can influence this world in various ways - have base as island or plot , select a country ( as a citizen or helper ) - relationship landlord and medieval kingdom would fit into this. Way More detailed setting req.

# If all “villages” are claimed or certain percentage of villages are claimed, the “faction” game is over and non-war time is given. There will be no map reset for island or plot , but it can be reset in very long term ( like annually ) - sufficient attention & announcement req.

What is open field?


Openfield refers to a wide map that enables player to wander around with some freedom. GTA, Skyrim, Watchdogs, FallOut, or Far cry are these types of games.


What is skyblock / Plot?


Skyblock is one of the most classic gamemode in minecraft that player owns an island, get materials, exchange it to various things, and extend one’s island. Plot only differs that it is not island but plot.


What is faction?


Here, I am not referring to classic faction, but more like faction-fight in world of warcraft. Two or more factions are conflicting each other, trying to conquer land. Whoever wins according to the rule wins the game.


How to construct server?


Trying to avoid.


As I have run server for past few years ( sigcraft - Korean server ) , it is not a good idea to provide multiple servers when player count is small. ( less than 1000 , I’d say ). For example, it refers to a classic style to cluster survival, skyblock, creative, minigames, and others with bungeecord. Major problem of this method is that it divides up the player. Player count in a server itself, is very important to provide good gaming experience for server users. This time, I will not follow the classic style. It is of course necessary to divide up the server in multiple instances to handle server load, but user must feel like they are playing in the same server. This can be achieved by having global chat and synchronizing database.


Also, users want to play game. That’s why they are here. Minecraft is a great game, but many gamers are young. Giving too many options to start is not a good approach to attract young players. It also applies to grown up players as they want to chill, not work.


However, it is important to let new players to easily get into the game, but we do need end-game contents. In many games, pvp or cosmetic type contents are used as end-game contents. It is because such contents are consumed very slowly, and can be easily used to attract player with fewer effort. Hence, it must exist, but it should be adjusted subtly so that it can benefit heavy and serious player who want it, but doesn’t make light and new player feel outcasted from contents.


Also, events are big part of event. Fun can , of course, come from complexity of the game, but events can bring rather easier and instant fun to players. It is important. I have failed to manage events for few years as I have run my server by my own. Now, as a team, we have more time to dedicate on many different things. Events must be friendly to users, but needs to be somewhat unique and give motivations to players.


We are going through four stages of development. Stage1 and 2 aim to prepare to see how much we can do in certain time frame, and stage 3 is actual developing stage.


Stage 1

  1. Construct general world view ( planner )

  2. Construct general storyline and stem of sub storylines accordingly ( planner )

  3. Investigate on few plugins to use, and design new if required. ( developer )
Stage 2

  1. After world view and general storyline are completed, check existing buildings and schematics out that fits to the theme, check license, and ask for permission if required. Plan how to generally create the entire openfield map. ( builder )

  2. Finish upto three sub storylines practically ( planners )

  3. Design general idea of systems , discuss with other group members if required. ( planners )

  4. Investigate and check thoroughly on plugins to use. ( developer )

  5. Construct dev server and document if required ( developer )

  6. Discuss build style of villages and map design. ( builder )
Stage 3.

  1. Expand quests , fully design all subquests for all villages and repeatable quests ( planner )

  2. Design all other game systems ( planner )

  3. Design all detailed part of general plan ( planner )

  4. As plan goes on, start developing ( developer )

  5. Finish openfield map, discuss with other group members if req. ( builder)

  6. Thoroughly test developed material ( GM or other helpers )
Stage 4.

  1. Hard testing before launching ( everyone )

  2. Confirm how to allocate profit ( everyone )

  3. Confirm server rule, and rule between dev team members. ( everyone )

Ok, I am connected.. What should I do? Alright, our defense game for Heidel east outpost is 3 hours later. Well, I have some time to do other stuff. Well I guess I can first do daily quest from Tispica city. Alright, today’s daily quest starts with.. 300 pumpkin collect. Fine..

Oh, my job level is now 112! , yay another skill point. Should I invest this on farmer’s hand, or gold finder? Hmm.. well i’ll think about that later.

Nice, another spirit of land. I think it is hmm let me check. It is 80% expensive in Siata city. Maybe it is good time to sell all of these I stocked. Let me go finish daily quest, and go there.


( finishing more daily quests, I’d say 5 or 6 consecutive quests. Now geared up, with all “spirit of land” in his inventory going to Siata city )


My exp is at 95%! I could grind little bit .. ( grinding to level up , a broadcast emerged that random envoy appeared around him )


Envoy just 300 blocks from here! I should get it! ( running toward that location, yet someone was slightly faster than him and already got the loot ) , dammit. You are fast bro.

Hmm. well 40% is not enough to sell all. Maybe I’ll just sell half of them because I want to enhance my gear to try out next boss. Well it is almost time for war

Well guys, good game. We can do better next time. Alright , we lost 22 influence point today, so it’ll be fine. We still have 310 influence points and following guild only has 130. I’ll call a day for today, see you all later.
