Reduce the minimum daily bid amount for banner ads on MC Market

Hey there,

Currently, the minimum bid for ads is $5 a day. The result of this is that slots on the resources sidebar are often not filled. Currently, only 3 of the 5 slots are being filled. I have also seen it where only 1 or 2 of these slots are filled. Clearly, people do not value this as being worth $5 a day.

I think it would be better to lower the minimum value (possibly of just this slot) to something...lower. Possibly $1. All MC Market ads are curated, so its not like you will start seeing very low quality banner ads.

The net gain of this to MC Market is that the slots will be more consistently filled, generating more revenue. It also gives smaller outfits a chance to advertise on a lower budget at quiet times. In all, a net gain for everyone.

I’m cool with this, though on the forums it starts at .10 a day, so it might just be people bidding to 5 and then some back out or something

Ah yeah apologies I made an error. The minimum bid of $5 only applies to some banner type ads. The thread related ads do indeed start from 0.1 a day.

Still, I believe the minimum bid for the resource side bar at least should be reduced, considering it is consistently not full.

This issue is still very much the case. Currently 2 banners are displayed on the resources side bar.

Assuming MC Market only sold 2 of these for the entire month of march, that would equate to $310 of income.

If the minimum was lowered to $3, and the remaining slots sold at this price, that would equate to $589 of income.

Considering this doesn't cost MC Market to implement this, its essentially $279 of free money.

The reason that we set the minimum bids higher for some banner positions than the thread/resource featuring is that I value minimizing ads to our users more than a few extra cents a day of revenue. I'd much rather show just 2 banners a day rather than 5 if those extra 3 were only paying $0.10 a day each.

In saying that though, I do think that you make a fair point about $5/day being too high for the resources sidebar banners. I've now reduced it from $5 to $3 which I think is fairer for our existing advertisers and should make advertising more affordable there.

I don't think that's the case, the market is bigger than ever and the companies operating within the Minecraft community are thriving.
