A few suggested amends...

- Any tangible (physical item) prizes need to have a photo of the prize with OP's name and date on a piece of paper.

- OP's own staff, family, and/or employees have to be excluded from any contest they run.

- Contest that are decided by RNG, the process needs to be documented (live twitch video, etc).

I believe these additions would make sure contest are legal, and squelch any future issues like this... http://www.mc-market.org/threads/260313/

Honestly seems a bit unnecessary. I'm about to do a giveaway that will have at least 20 RNG drawings for smaller items and I have zero desire to record and/or stream every single one

I think after the fall out in that thread anyone having an actual contest for tangible items would WANT to do it. I know I would, no exceptions, it removes any and all doubt that the contest wasn't fraudulent.

Just seems a bit overkill for an "issue" that we really haven't seen much of and the reason you cite is debatable. I don't really think the ipad thing was rigged.

Is it not suspicious enough that Kylew disagreed with this?... Clearly he wants more free advertising for his server while not having to give away anything at all... Contests should have to provide proof after they are won, I totally agree.

No, it makes things fair. How are little things like this overkill?

However there was one thing I disagreed with in this thread which was "OP's own staff, family, and/or employees have to be excluded from any contest they run".

I honestly don't see a problem with them participating as long as it's a fair and square giveaway and or contest.

Could be illegal in many places.

Oh gee, so our relations have to suffer because we know them and work with them. That's called bias. And you're trying to avoid that by posting this suggestion; however, you've just implemented bias in a different form.

Guess who's wrong? If you said yourself, you'd be right.

It's literally the opposite of biased, it's showing contestants that you're being non-partisan by excluding people who work for you. It's eliminating the conflict of interest, and many states have laws requiring this for sweepstakes and contest giveaways. Pretty much every company that runs a sweepstakes or giveaway will have in their rules to that effect. Here are just a few contest rules I found by Googling "contest rules"... just look for the eligibility section.

I do think giveaways or contests with a prize worth a substantial amount should require proof so that people know it wasn't rigged.

It’s so ironic that you’re the one arguing this, just saying...

You seem to say this a lot.

We're talking about a Minecraft giveaway though.

And? I think you're missing the point, a scam is a scam... If a contest is fraudulent, it doesn't matter who runs it.
