I think if you're perm-banned for over 1 month all your ratings + messages get removed.
I say 1 month+ as I got banned for 3 day's but then unbanned, so if mine rest it would be unfair
But I think it should be possible to get your ratings + messages back if you get unbanned 2 months after

I don't think this is possible, what's the reason for a system like this?

It's annoying seeing banned users having like 5k posts etc
Especially how they aren't getting unbanned any time soon so what's the point of having it

This would essentially cause users reactions to continuously go down. It would be such a huge knock on effect that everyone would constantly be complaining.

I think a more viable suggestion would be to simply hide banned users from the top members lists.

It's not necessarily all about the ratings though. Sometimes I personally will be crawling through the website and find a post I really like, I may want to contact the creator of the post for various reasons only to find out they're banned. It would make much more sense for the post created by a banned user to be removed.

Banned members may still have made valid contributions to the site which other users could find incredibly useful.
I seriously don't think this is an option.

It is always nice to keep a record of things users have posted, banned or not, it may be useful in the future.

There is seriously no point in this.

I honestly find this suggestion pointless as it just involves censorship which I'm heavily against.

Posts shouldn't be removed. As multiple users stated, they could have still contributed to the site. Just because they are banned, doesn't mean they have to disappear.

However, removing ratings is not something that's done that fast.
First I need to run a database query, after that I have to recount ratings which just causes confusion during the recounting process. It's an unnecessary thing that would have to be done for each banned user.

Rather than having the banned user's messages and ratings be removed altogether, I liked what morganjp said above.
Remove those users from the notable members lists.

Besides, the removal of posts just causes threads to lose their train of thought, but go ahead and remove them from the notable members listings for sure while they are banned!

Why would you remove them
It shows their contribution while they where here.
It shows where they went wrong.
And it acts as a guide on what not to do.
