We live in a world of simplicity, convince, and automation as technological innovations change the way we live on a daily basis. Instead of manually unlocking doors, we're now saying "Alexa, unlock the door for Mick."

While our innovations in automation and data analysis help us make decisions, we take them for granted-even when we know we shouldn't be. Our internet-connected door locks are prone to hackers and our mistakes due to deception, fraud, and mistakes overall.

Our reputation system doesn't act like a door lock-or so we think at first glance. When you purchase a product, you factor in the company's reputation above all. Why would you buy a uPad from Yapple when you could get the latest MC-Market MinePad? A known business? We all know that MC-Market is the best, but how about when the decision is less clear, on a larger scale when the market is on the lower end?

Our numbers tell lies and they provide a shortcut which we as a community take advantage of instead of actually reading reputation. If we simply remove the numbers, Mick wouldn't have to care about his negative reputation, specifically those of lesser value which don't factor in all the facts. The members with over a hundred reputation from vouch copies and small deals wouldn't matter anymore because it'll be known that they were small deals.

When I look in the suggestions forum, I notice people saying we should add more fields to reputation. But what's the point of that when people don't look at them?

A graphics designer shouldn't be able to use their reputation when they suddenly start a hosting business, or should they? It's up to you to decide. They might have good team leadership, that should count. They could have high quality graphics, that should count less.

That gang reputation, well, they'd have all the dates close together. You can't tell its a gang reputation just by looking at numbers.

So lets remove the numbers. If we should or not, you decide-just like you should decide on your own who you deal with.

I disagree, i take a look at people’s reputation from time to time just because, and i also pay even more attention when i’m making deals with users.

I usually read the reputations, especially if I'm doing a high value deal or when I'm dealing with someone that has a negative reputation. Having the numbers visible makes it easier to tell if I am dealing with someone more "reputable" or not, because if we remove the number NOBODY will ever read the reps and will proabably cause even more scams.

Do you recommend moving the number on the sidebar or on their profile? Or for both places.

I honestly love the reputation system and always use it when I look at people I may be dealing with to make sure that I am dealing with someone trustworthy.

Not quite. The simplicity of this change is outstanding to where anyone could of done this on their own. At most, I would’ve earned $0.50 from this change-if I even figured to count it.

This suggestion was fueled by pure thought in regards to community improvement and reducing the laziness I’ve seen in the community. Numbers mask information.

I heavily read into the reputation of every user I deal with. I see no issue with separating rep into fields, and the "no one looks" part could easily be solved by either having separate numbers for deal rep (efficiency, trustworthiness, etc) and opinion rep (trashing, toxicity, etc) or by disallowing opinion rep altogether (which I do not suggest)

The reputation system on this site is next to worthless and a poor indicator of actual reputation, regardless i suggest it is kept and instead people are told about how unreliable it is and not to care so much about the little green number.

Whats ur opinion on my comment?

i agree with it, i also think the reputation system on here is trying to be something it is not... people take this shit way too seriously when in reality it shouldn't matter for anything other than seeing what deals have taken place with the user.

It’s not the numbers, it’s the dumb fucking morons on this site that don’t do their own research, and then bitch about the system when they get scammed. Accept that you fucked up and open a scam report.

And all of you agreeing with this and claiming it’s not because you have a shit ton of negative reps, that’s a blatant lie.

haircut 11 negative reps about being a scammer? Well damn you may just be that. Only reason you’re not banned yet is because scam reports are backed up to August.

katana2 You should care about your negative reps. Nobody wants to deal with a toxic user. Just a heads up.

1 positive rep, no other rep = 100% rep
200 positive rep, no other rep = 100% rep

"Oh he has 100% positive feedback, no need to read anything, I'll deal with this guy!"

Just makes this problem of not reading rep a lot worse.

The real fix is not to count irrelevant items towards someone's sales rep and to have prices for deals added, low prices being tagged as "low value". If you're buying/selling something, you want to see what successful deals they've done, not "+rep, he's a nice person!" "+rep he gave me this for free!" or "-rep he trashed my thread!" This is a marketplace and you want to see successful transactions along with prices listed. If it's a legitimate vouch copy, it could be classified as that, and would be the lowest value. And there should be an option to sort deals by value.

I think it's ridiculous to bundle in rep like "Vouch, sold me a $2,000 instagram" and "Wrote something I don't like on my thread"

Sadly though, I don't expect anything to get done anyway. Maybe a minor tweak like we've seen once or twice in the past (renaming a rep option and requiring a certain character count) And on top of that, the character count isn't even enforced by the form so nobody follows it.
