When people go to prison a mugshot is taken of them and their face is recorded to ensure everyone knows they are a criminal. On Mcm, when a user is banned their profile image is forever erased and replaced with a useless ban logo that doesn't give anyone any information that isn't found by looking at their slashed name or banned message under their post. In fact, relying on the image can be problematic when people who aren't banned make their profile image the banned logo.
There are a few reasons the person's old profile image is more useful to people than a banned sticker.
1. Say the scammer shows back up a few weeks later and is stupid enough to use the same picture. If the banned user's picture was still up suspicions would be raised and the moderation would be able to catch a few more banned people with multiple accounts. As is, this could potentially slip through the cracks. Maybe most people aren't that stupid, but its bound to have happened at least once.
2. Say a member finds a picture they want to use but it's unfortunately the same one a scammer previously used. The member has no way of telling because the scammer's picture is now a giant banned logo. Now people think an innocent member is a scammer if they remember the picture the scammer had. The member is new so they don't know who used what picture. Sucks for them, they are just a victim of bad luck.
3. Some people remember users on here more by picture than name. Sure, people can change their picture, but people can also change their name (which is pretty dumb) so neither system is really more accurate than the other. So say someone has a user added on skype and connects who they are on Mcm with their skype by remembering their profile picture rather than name. Then one day, BAM, the guy they have added on skype is banned for scamming. Now, there is no connection between who the Mcm account is and who is added on skype because the McM account is just an anonymous face with a giant banned logo. The scammer is free to scam since Mcm helped cover up their identity.
Sure, maybe none of these are likely to happen, but why get rid of information that could potentially be useful and replace it with a giant banned logo that doesn't contribute anything that can't already be easily figured out? Personally, I forgot names very quickly and place a lot of people on here by their picture more so than their name. If they change they picture I make note of it and remember them by the new picture. But if they are banned they suddenly enter this sea of faces that are indistinguishable from the next and I find it hard to remember who people are. The banned logo really is more annoying and not worth much considering you have to look at someone's name or for a banned message to even know if they are actually banned in the first place.
