Hey,

for my new company, a few friends and I will be hosting events. We're renting a big venue in NYC, but since I'm only 16 I obviously can't put my name down. Therefore, my dad most likely would.

If my dad puts his name down, he becomes liable, correct? Would he be sued if something goes wrong in the event, or would the venue be? Could he personally be sued by the venue, and for what reasons?

Would it be easier by registering a small business with limited liability? Or is it not really worth it?

Thanks for your potential help,
Hype

If you're going to be hosting an event like this you should probably have some proper consultancy... And yes your father would be held liable. As for your other question; it probably would not be worth becoming a limited liability company for a singular event.

If you're going to host events every year or quote a few times a year under the same name, it may be worth registering a company for it. Like ArcadiaCon is an annual thing, MCPH opened a new business for it.

I will be hosting several events per year. How hard is it to register as a company? Would my Dad have to do it in person, or could we just do it online?

Thanks.

How much work is it, and can I do it online? If so, can I have a link?

ALSO: can it be registered to my name, or does it need to be registered to someone over 18?

This may be different in the US, however in Australia anyone 16 years or over is able to register a proprietary limited company. This means the business becomes it's own entity and all liabilities are held to the entity.

I know that in most U.S. state, as long as you're eligible enough to fill out the paper work properly, you can register at any age.
