I've come to you all today, to bring out something that has constantly been bothering me here on MCM. The issue of "rep" being confused with ratings. No. Ratings can be very, VERY, inaccurate, and seeing as all of our "reputable" members are the ones with high ratings (Skill Doge Speed, etc.), this isn't the fairest way to run things. Let me put it simply. For a vouch copy on some random thread, a user needs to be above 500 ratings. This throws everything off balance. I come along, with a moderately good post-to-rating ratio, but then another user with a horrible post to rating ratio, but enough to claim the giveaway. On top of that, all of my ratings are likes, while all of his are "funny". The winnings would go to him, while if we had Vouches mean reputation, I would have received the Vouch Copy. I mean, knowing that people like your posts and all is really fun. Ratings are awesome, and they can stay, but they shouldn't really be the deciding factor in deals or vouch copies. In addition, ratings often tells "who goes first," but a scammer could be hidden underneath those ratings, for all we know. Obviously not every high reputation member is a scammer, most of them probably are not, but hey, what are the chances?

I really just posted this to see what MCM thinks about this. It has been super annoying to see the amount of ignorant people offering "Vouch Copies" to people with 400 funny ratings. I love it.

I'd say none because there aren't even vouches anymore. So people rate post that speak the truth or are really funny as Winner. So right now I don't even think there is a reputation system

I think he means general vouches from members...

I believe implementing a reputation system would benefit the community greatly.

Rep is mostly just word of mouth. I think the system is fine as-is and all the high rating and post members have been here for a fairly long time and most of which are trusted members. And most vouch copies go to reputable members anyway and sometimes not as reputable members don't like that because they want in on the free stuff too, but if you want free stuff you must earn it. After all a vouch from a reputable member is valued much more than that of a not as reputable member.

Wtf, why didn't I get a tag as one of the reputable members :(
But, yea I believe the rating system should stay as-is. We will know who's trustworthy based on the amount of successful deals someone has made, and the amount of vouches they receive from people.

I don't understand this argument at all. To accrue ratings at this website, one has to build a reputation for themselves. In that case, how are ratings not reflective of one's reputation? The odds of someone with 1000+ ratings scamming are very slim.

The entire reputation system is so messed up lol, I've been scammed by users with over 1k "reputation" (really just positive ratings) for $100+ just because I went first due to their ratings. If you are a legitimate buyer / seller of things that are of very high value, do not go first under any circumstances, because the things people do for money... honestly disgusts me. That doesn't mean that they should go first however, use a very trusted MM that deals in large amounts on a daily basis so you know they won't scam.

Just my 2 cents.

What users?

It should stay as is because if it was being abused way too much, it would have been removed already. Please point out to me someone who has high ratings that is all funny/creative/optimistic. Oh wait... you can't!

Before you speak shit about what I said, please go ahead and check how many of your posts are rated funny, compared to how many are rated liked. And then, look at mine.

Now, I am not the most "rated" member, but I can say this. It is rather hypocritical to say what you said if you have more funny ratings than likes. So just stop being an overconfident moron.

Wait, let me say one more thing. This is my opinion. My opinion doesn't have to be your opinion. Don't hate on my opinion. That's really immature, as over half of the threads created today concern opinions.

All are banned now, SinncereTV scammed me out of a $150 Steam item and a couple others that I don't remember.
yeah but how would a different rep system change that he scammed you? whether he had 1000 ratings or 1000 vouches he still would've scammed lol

When did I ever say a different rep system would've changed anything lol... Regardless of whether another system would have prevented him from scamming or not, it still does not change the fact that this current system of positive ratings equaling reputation is very flawed.

Maybe if the reputation system was based on explicit vouches from people who are known to be reputable, then I wouldn't have trusted him (because the only reason why I went first was because he had more ratings).

lol then go look through his posts and profile page to find vouches from reputable people.

for most deals it makes sense for the user with more ratings to go last because people with less ratings are generally more likely to scam. that's a fact, and nothing anyone says makes that not be a fact.

I agree that ratings don't necessarily mean someone is trustworthy, because someone who doesn't have a shop at all could have a thousand ratings in theory, but I still think that having lots of ratings makes someone reputable. It would be nice to have a separate area for "Vouches" underneath where it shows each users' ratings and messages, but I still dont think that would really solve all the problems. Sometimes people just turn shitty and there's not really a way to prevent that.
