Hi MC-Market,

I am currently developing an open-sourced plugin that opens up bitcoin lightning-network microtransactions as a currency up to the minecraft community. With that, I am also creating a proof of concept server server that will implement microtransactions as a balance system that you can transact with in and out of the game. If something like this sounds interesting to you, please feel free to message me on-site to talk.

Tbh I think you need to provide more information, for example how does the plugin manage transactions? Is the player told to send money somewhere, or does the plugin have access to the public and private keys and is able to do it by itself? And how would money first get introduced into the server economy? Are players able to send money in and out freely? I could see that turning into a recurring issue where the main goal of most players would be to make money rather than spend it, mainly do to young kids seeing it more as a business opportunity rather than a game. I could also see that destroying the economy instantly, with no transactions happening at all for days or even weeks. And how about regulation? Are there any limits on player when it comes to topping off their wallet with btc? If not, how could you avoid it becoming p2w? Where wealthy people would come in and just buy their way to the top. The whole thing seems like an interesting idea, but I think there's some flaws in it that need to be addressed

All internal transactions are not through lightning. Players can deposit/withdraw from their in-game accounts using lightning network. Not so much a business opportunity, the point is for people to earn/spend bitcoins playing minecraft- you could pay the server for cosmetic items and the server could pay you for completing quests/missions.

The server would facilitate smart-contracts and it would be a way for players to earn real money without having to put in money (or earn more money if you put some money in).
The concept could support a variety of gamemodes like survival, pvp, minigames, etc. and put a unique monetary spin on it.

Would be a great way for young players to be introduced into money in a way they can actually accept it (since they mostly don't have bank accounts). Also a good way for experienced players to have a good time and earn some money while doing it.

blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated inside our Minecraft client and server applications nor may they be utilized to create NFTs associated with any in-game content, including worlds, skins, persona items, or other mods. -- Source: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/minecraft-and-nfts
Lightning is off-chain layer on top of bitcoin. The point of that article was people were selling minecraft's intellectual property as NFTs (violating trademark)- different usecase.
